- The description of this item -- along with the statement about beating arrogant rabbits -- is a reference to the Aesop fable "The Tortoise and the Hare," where an overconfident hare challenges the slow, but steady-paced tortoise to a race, which the last hit message is also a reference to.
- Chelonian means "belonging to the order of Chelonia," which basically includes all turtles.
- The word "terra-pinning" is a portmanteau of the words "terrapin" (any freshwater turtle) and "pinning" (a wrestling move).
- The "turtle ninja" hit message is a reference to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
- "Turtle whacks" is a play on Turtle Wax, a brand of car wax.
