How Does a Floating Platform Even Work?

You come to the border between <Previous Level> and <Next Level>, which, unfortunately, turns out to be a series of precarious ledges and platforms hovering in the air over a bottomless pit. Typical.

With a sigh, you start jumping from platform to platform. Soon, the gaps begin to widen, making you wish double-jump was a thing you could do or that made any kind of physical sense at all. And eventually, of course, you encounter platforms that are moving. The moving platforms are the worst.

You leap over to the first one, which is slowly drifting up and down. The next one is moving horizontally, slightly more quickly. The timing on this is going to be a bitch.

Jump when the first platform is high and the second is moving away
  • When this is the correct choice:

You leap to the second platform, which is already drifting out of your reach, but you have the advantage of height, and manage to grab the edge of it and pull yourself up with a gasp. After that, the rest of the platforms are comparatively easy.

  • When this is the incorrect choice:

You leap toward the second platform, but it is already drifting out of your reach, and the extra height gained from your ascent isn't enough to compensate. You flail your arms uselessly as you fall into nothingness.

Jump when the first platform is low and the second is approaching
  • When this is the correct choice:

You leap toward the second platform; for a moment you fear that you're too low to catch the edge, but it slides into range of your hands just at the last second, and you claw your way up onto it, breathing heavily. After that, the rest of the jumps seem simple by comparison.

  • When this is the incorrect choice:

You leap toward the second platform, and discover that the first platform's descent has spoiled your momentum. The second platform glides toward you, but too slowly and too late for you to prevent a fall into nothingness.

Jump when the first platform is at the same height as the second
  • When this is the correct choice:

You carefully watch for the moment when the platforms are level, and leap across. It's a near thing, but the lack of height is made up for by the second platform's approach, and you manage to stick the landing. Whew!

  • When this is the incorrect choice:

You carefully watch for the moment when the platforms are level, and leap across. Well, nearly across. Not quite all the way across. But you were close!

Occurs in The GameInformPowerDailyPro Dungeon.

Notes

  • A successful choice will have the following text appended to it:
Upon reaching the other side of the crevasse, you hop down, glad to be on solid ground again. Though, since you're now in <Next Level>, that happiness may be short-lived.
Wait a minute... <Next Level>? When did you leave the tunnels underneath the Dungeoneer's Association?
