- Before The Naughty Sorceress' Tower was revamped, there was a chance for this to be required to open one of The 3 Gates.

- Izchak Miller was a founding member of the NetHack DevTeam who died in 1994, and was immortalized by having a shopkeeper in the game named after him. Izchak runs the lighting shop in Minetown. Unlike any other shop, Izchak's is guaranteed to appear in every game. It is commonly viewed as "bad karma" to kill Izchak in most NetHack communities.
