Northern Building (Basement)
- Prior to killing the giant spider:
The basement of the ancient house is dark, but enough light comes in from the stairs to let you see dimly. As your eyes adjust to the gloom, you see that whoever used to live here had an extensive spiderweb collection. Or, perhaps, whatever lives here now has an extensive spiderweb collection.
- If the giant spider is discovered, but not killed:
The basement of the ancient house is dark, but enough light comes in from the stairs to let you see dimly. As your eyes adjust to the gloom, you see the gigantic spider that attacked you before, sitting in its web in the corner and staring at you with rows of glowing green eyes.
- Once the giant spider is killed, prior to looting the chest:
The basement of the ancient house is dark, but enough light comes in from the stairs to let you see dimly. As your eyes adjust to the gloom, you spot the gigantic corpse of the spider, on its back with its legs curled up, and fervently hope there aren't any more of them.
- Once the giant spider is killed and chest looted:
The basement of the ancient house is dark, but enough light comes in from the stairs to let you see dimly. As your eyes adjust to the gloom, you spot the gigantic corpse of the spider, on its back with its legs curled up, and fervently hope there aren't any more of them. You also spot, in the far corner of the room, the stone chest you discovered and looted previously.

- After defeating the spider without the memory of an iron key:
Keeping a careful eye out for more spiders, Krakrox brushed the webs away from the corners of the room and discovered a small stone chest secured with iron bands and a fairly heavy-looking lock. He gave the lock a thump with the hilt of his sword, but being underground and out of the sea air, the metal was still quite strong. With a grunt of annoyance, Krakrox made a mental note to come back when he'd found the key.
Being a man of action, Krakrox didn't care much for wandering around silent ruins looking for keys and whatnot. He decided he would return to the jungle and seek out a little action, and then return.
- After spider is defeated with key:
Keeping a careful eye out for more spiders, Krakrox brushed the webs away from the corners of the room and discovered a small stone chest secured with iron bands and a fairly heavy-looking lock.
You try a key you had found, and the lock opens with a satisfying click. Inside the chest, you find a small geometrically-shaped stone block, maybe two inches across. You shrug and pocket it, figuring you can use it as a paperweight if nothing else.
![]() | You acquire an item: memory of a small stone block |
Finding the quiet of the ancient city to be a bit... disquieting, Krakrox decided to return to the jungle for a bit to stretch his legs -- or rather, his sword.
Er... well, you know what I mean.
- After the small stone block is found
Krakrox remembers finding all there was to find in the spiderwebs.
Open Chest |
(this option only available after checking the spider webs without the key)

Leave the City |
Poking around in an abandoned ruin was starting to grate on Krakrox's nerves. He was a man of action, ill-suited to scavenger hunts and puzzley nonsense.
You decide to return to the jungle and find something to kill instead.
Occurs at The Jungles of Ancient Loathing.
Notes
- Fighting the spider and finding the small stone block both terminate the adventure.
- Opening the chest requires the memory of an iron key.
