The original ninja weapons were developed out of farm and masonry implements, or whatever other tools were readily-available and inconspicuous. So, it's not unlikely that a ninja who works in an office would put special effort into getting his pencils extra-sharp, and could probably put one in your eye from the other side of the cafeteria.
