Equipment Strategy
Could we start an equipment strategy thread? For example, I wasted a lot of turns (HC AT run) using a dented harmonica because I couldn't figure out better equipment to use at my level with no b's in the name. Then I started looking and figured out that a curdflinger was useful at my level. So, maybe a list by class of what equipment is good (high power and no b's, or good enough to outweigh the b penalty, etc) --Mustard 20:45, 1 April 2012 (CEST)
general
A few pointers form my run: I did a softcore BHY run as DB, I used grass whistle until I could use the 7-inch discus. Also, I'm fairly I could use the chaos butterfly during the Farm sidequest, since I don't remember it taking longer than the other times I used the shortcut. Anyway, it wasn't too hard due to having permed Tongue of the Walrus and Entangling Noodles, and having a Starfish-type familiar. --Rikastley 08:15, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
- You're mistaken about the butterfly.--Erich 11:54, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
It should be mentioned for the Lv12 quest that the outfit is only necessary for starting/fighting/ending the war, the Nun sidequest, and turning in quests. This should hopefully save people some headache. --Doomsday Forte 09:52, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
It's worth noting that it is MONUMENTALLY easier to do beecore as a Myst class. Much cheaper MP, and spells help tremendously against bees. Anyone doing a non-Myst class should pick a MP-restoring astral item (i.e. chapeau, ring, or shorts) or have a MP-restoring familiar (i.e. starfish or ghuol whelp-type), or else prepare for a long haul with few buffs and very little meat until they finally unlock the Black Market and/or the Myst store as an AT.--Jett 15:37, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- Gah. I forgot to mention, but this obviously applies mostly to HC runs. SC players with good toys can work around the lack of seltzer much more easily.--Jett 15:42, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
I've found it's not so hard as a Disco Bandit in Hardcore. It's a shame to have to spend some adventures on crafting, though (after Inigo's casts). More adventures from Extra-Fruity Girl Drinks will of course more than make up for that. It was a little tight on MP early in the run. But I guess I'll save 6000 meat by not opening Dungeons of Doom & getting a wand, right? I'm using my Rogue Program a lot in my (Hardcore) Oh How I Love Bees runs. ;-) He gives me MP and little parachute guys, which give me MP and HP. Also I'm having fun with the plastic spider ring. And of course I maintain my standing as #3 in Hardcore dedication to my Dandy Lion (see koldb). :D Jett, you're not saying we can look forward to using Black cherry soda in a Bee run, are you? How do I make that B red? :p I think doing Doc Galaktik's quest makes his MP cost about the same as cola from White Castle. I've gone with The Vole sign so that I have access to Inside Degrassi Knoll and could focus on Moxie. Just a few comments from a slowpoke. --StorellaDeville 07:21, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- Oh. Of course. I'd need at least 3 trips to the Daily Dungeon plus favors from the RNG to avoid getting a Dungeons of Doom wand. I guess I'll open the DoD. :D --StorellaDeville 07:30, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- I just about finished a 4-day DB run. I got derailed by a LOT of bad RNG, and was short a few turns of being able to finish. If my zap wand had given me the third key I needed (even though I got max zaps it still didn't; I didn't have turns to go to the DD again), I would have had a chance at finishing, provided I got through the maze with only killing 2 golems. Anyway, it helps a lot if you have a slimeling and GGG and do pvp to pick up flower pies. Then you just stasis as often as possible with those guys to get your MP filled up constantly. Be a bit cautious and drop most of your dictionary meat into the closet (for DoD + wand + level 11 quest costs, which amounts to 13500 total) and you can make sure not to overspend. I guess I'll just turn this run into a Honey farming one so I can get the outfit. --Flargen 07:37, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
Meat engines are dropped by Keg Tank so Bitchin Meat Car, Meat Maid,et al. can be made in late game. Not necessarily helpful but there you go --Moraglar Khilen 16:23, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, we should totally mention that you can get a meatcar for shore access during the level 12 quest on the island that in order to get to requires shore access. Meat maid is irrelevant by level 12.--Toffile 17:21, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- Can the Keg Tank be faxed? --Turing 17:34, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- I bet so, but don't see it listed on the faxbot page, so it wouldn't be trivial. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 20:13, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- It's also a 5% drop, so there's basically zero chance you'd actually get it to drop, even if the monster can be copied. --Flargen 20:59, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- I actually think there's about a 5% chance that it would drop. Lack of yellow ray or pumpkin bombs make the scenario of it being killable early + dropping unlikely though.--Toffile 21:17, 2 June 2011 (UTC)
- That's what I meant. It's not a STRATEGY to do that. A lot of this page isn't strategy at all. It's just "here's why beecore is different", with a smattering of generally bad advice mixed for what otherwise appears as no reason. --Flargen 03:23, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- That's true. This page for better or worse grew from listing the divergences and errata for what a player could expect from a normal no-path run. I'd rather prefer that it concentrates on those aspects.--Toffile 03:42, 3 June 2011 (UTC)

can't use memory of xx base pair, so primordial soup quest is impossible. sadface. --Rufusina 04:19, 1 August 2011 (CEST)
- That's more of a softcore-problem, since players in hardcore can't access the zone during a BHY-run because they can't use the Baby Sandworm in the first place. While I'm a little surprised it's possible to use an empty agua de vida bottle during BHY, you can still finish the quest after you break the prism. --Yatsufusa 04:30, 1 August 2011 (CEST)
- yeah, the fact that i managed to use the empty agua de vida bottle is why it surprised me that i couldn't use the base pairs. --Rufusina 03:31, 11 August 2011 (CEST)
also can't use bottle of Gü-Gone, so i guess i'm putting off my nemesis until post-prism too. --Rufusina 03:31, 11 August 2011 (CEST)
It's just a flesh wound
You can use a Disco Banjo in a DB run. Come on, it's just 10% of your health. Ideally, moxie classes shouldn't even be getting hit. Even more ideally, Entangling Noodles and any healing skill. I find an unfair tilt against relying on B equipment. --Raijinili 02:08, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- Just one of the many reasons I'd like to nuke this page from orbit. There's certainly nothing that prevents you from using a disco banjo in run, other than that it's an unnecessary expenditure of a clover, some meat, and a turn. Unless you need a stringed instrument for the lair, but you could save that for the last day of the run. And you should be able to afford a sitar to cover that, though I guess that's helped a lot by having a fruit fairy (or slimeling or hound, but those give less stats). --Flargen 03:23, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- I cleaned up the language used, and also added the inexplicably missing swashbuckling pants and the war hippy fatigues. I also edited down the shieldbutt section. Using shieldbutt as an AT I found the hot plate valuable. (Of course, I'm also a s****y player.)--Foggy 04:38, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
gmob
- what happens if you try to fight the gmob in bhy? --Evilkolbot 16:37, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
- He isn't there.--Toffile 16:39, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
- not there as in you get a different result each fifth time, or not there as in the fifth time is the same as the fourth? --Evilkolbot 20:17, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
- Very top of Talk:Bees_Hate_You says tried "eight times" with "Nothing happens" result. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 17:58, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Post script: you can find and fight him after freeing the king. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 01:30, 12 June 2011 (UTC)
When is it worthwhile?
BHY gives 100/50 extra karma. How does that balance against the extra time needed for BHY run (if any)? I think the strategy guide could use a brief section on this topic. --Stannius 20:46, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- BHY adds a day at most to the high-end HC speedrunning. (4/5 dayers instead of 3/4 dayers). That's about 60 karma/day for BHY, and 50 karma/day for no path. Slower players won't probably get such a large increase in time, so BHY would win out.--Toffile 21:07, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- It's taking me 6 or 7 days to do a BHY run, which is how long it would normally take me to do a run anyway, so yeah, it's absolutely worthwhile for me. --Turing 21:10, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- Not needing wand, not needing items for the 3 gates, and no RNG screw for the tower makes it immensely valuable to go BHY over normal, and i'm doing 4-day SC-PM-BHYs, but 8-day SC-PM-NPs. of course, that was before i got a ton of IOTM toys, but worth a mention.--The ErosionSeeker 05:46, 1 August 2011 (CEST)
