Talk:Bottled green pixie
Looks like an extended Pogues reference. --Creepingcrud 23:08, 1 June 2007 (CDT)
Actually, there are a LOT of Discworld references in the new zones, so I'll have to concur with the Nac Mac Feegle reference. --Tarantio 23:15, 1 June 2007 (CDT)
I suspect that the hatchling's name includes at least two references. 1) "Bottle Green" is a color, or at least a clothes dye; I know I've seen that term used to describe the color of clothing several times. 2) "Green Fairy" is a nickname for the hallucinogen Absinthe. --Olaf the Hungry 01:22, 2 June 2007 (CDT)
The Nac Mac Feegle reference is obvious- but perhaps not the proper name. Wee Free Men is better in this case; We Free Men = We, Fremen. The WORM Woods. It's a compound reference, I think, to both Dune and Disc.--DrKirre 15:06, 2 June 2007 (CDT)
-I think that's a stretch. Wormwood is the plant from which absinthe is made. On another subject, and I admit this could be a stretch too, the game Neopets has items called "bottled faeries"...including Earth faeries, which are green. --Listen2Reason 15:45, 5 June 2007 (CDT)
Why are we even discussing whether thujone does, or does not have hallucinogenic properties, in the References section of this article? It's out of scope either way. The item in the game is a fictional representation of absinthe which, true or not, is perceived to be a hallucinogen, i.e., that's the common perception. There's no point debating in this article, one way or another, whether actual absinthe itself is hallucinogenic. Teedz 10:20, 22 June 2007 (CDT)
Not exactly trying to argue here, and maybe there is something I am not aware of... but what makes you so sure that this item is NOT a reference to Neopets, Chunkyboo? I could be wrong - are you a personal friend of Jick's, and did he tell you this? I mean, I will be the first to admit, I am fairly new to this game, but usually, in my experience, if something looks like a cow, smells like a cow, and says "moo", you need to at least consider the possibility that it is a COW. Please enlighten me how you have this special, certain knowledge? If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I DO want to know why I'm wrong, and not have my thoughts be summarily dismissed. -KhayPrower 3:35 AM September 24 2007
- It's a fairly well established policy that nothing in this game is a reference to neopets. I know that it is not listed anywhere but that is just how it is, but if you want to know where I get this knowledge from Jick has said more then once on his radio show that paraphrased neopets. If you don't like this then talk to an admin on the wiki. --Chunky_boo 06:51, 24 September 2007 (CDT)
