Talk:Clobber

From A KoL Wiki

it could be affected by combat items. It jumped from 3-5 damage to 7-9 damage when i used a sonar in a biscut.

New Skill For You!
We've added new starting combat skills to some of the classes since you created your character. Here's the one you would've gotten:

You acquire a skill: Clobber

I think damage caused is directly related to the weapon you use (and not muscle), I think it always hits as well (it does on the crimbo monsters). Here's 3 comparisons:

  • Power 200, 267 (168) muscle, +34 melee damage: 27-44 dmg
  • Power 115, 183 (168) muscle, +4 melee damage: 14 (+3) to 22 (+3) - looks like elemental damage is divided by 3 on this skill.
  • Power 50, 267 (168) muscle, +4 melee damage: 8-13 dmg
  • Power 200, 267 (168) muscle, +4 melee damage: 24-41 dmg

Theory: 4 + (Weapon Power)/10 + random((Weapon Power)/10)) matches the figures above. Can a low level clubber supply some data? --Bigcalm 13:10, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

  • That looks like the formula for base weapon damage (10% to 20% of Weapon Power), plus your constant of 4. Might be the equipped weapon's damage, plus something like level and/or some constant. --Terion 01:41, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Data for level 22 Seal clubber: Muscle: 897 (448) Mysticality: 343 (298) Moxie: 403 (318) On atomic crimbo monsters with 2 fish scimitars (power 200 each and +10 weapon damage)

39 damage. 26 damage. 42 damage. 39 damage. 34 damage. 41 damage. 43 damage.

24-44 should be the range according to above formula, assuming it only is effected by the main slot, and not the off-hand slot. (added 22:39, 11 December 2008 Boggerbead)

  • I was able to hit monsters in the PLD with a muscle of 41. Looks like this skill is an auto-hit, for 1 MP.-QuantumNightmare 22:43, 11 December 2008 (UTC)

The phrase "adventurer smash!" is a reference to the Hulk saying "Hulk Smash" if anyone wants to add that.--Jeram 04:06, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

Theory: elemental damage is capped at +3. I wielded a spiked femur against demons in the Gate; Clobber caused +3 spooky damage, while a normal attack caused +6. I then equipped a clownskin harness as well; Clobber gave +3 spooky and +4 sleaze (+2 before it was doubled against a hot monster), and a normal attack gave +8 spooky and +4 sleaze. Unfortunately, in Hardcore, that's all the elemental damage I have at the moment. --Terion 01:41, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

OK, data for a level 8 SC, wielding a 100 power spiked femur, with Rage (+10 damage) and both Claws (+7 damage), starting Muscle of 79(64). Results within a single combat are grouped in (); my Pixie was contributing its own hits, so battle lengths varied. First two fights are against a W imp and a Hellion, all the rest are against hippies.

  • (18 16 21) (21 25 24)
  • (20 25) (23 16) (15 15 16) (24 24) (23 16) (16 19) (18 22) (23 20) (21 24) (16 22) (19 22)
  • (18) (24) (24 15) (21 23)
    • Spirit wore off, base Muscle increased: 80(65)
  • (24 19) (16 16) (23 20) (20 24) (22 25) (21 20) (15 23) (20 18) (15 23) (23 18) (20 15 25) (20 21) (15 18 24) (23 19) (17 15 21)
    • Now 20 combats with wereseal and Twinklefairy for another +5 damage and increased muscle on top of a base muscle increase: 117(66)
  • (24) (24 21) (17 16) (20 23) (18 24) (24) (16 24) (22) (21 16) (22) (17 17) (15 24) (24 16) (22 23) (17) (17 23) (25 20) (15) (22 16) (15 21)

At first glance, it doesn't look like the increased muscle or +damage in the last group increased Clobber; though, if bonus weapon damage is capped at +3 just like I think elemental damage is, I'm way over that; someone without Claws would have to check that. --Terion 21:22, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

  • I offhanded my Hammer of Smiting and Clobbered some bats. I didn't log it, but the damage seemed to be in the same 15-25 range, so DFSS doesn't seem to boost Clobber. Speaking of, that range looks like the base damage of the 100-power femur, 10-20, plus 5. --Terion 21:43, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

  • Elemental damage is not capped at 3, nor is it simple division; it appears to be the square root, rounded up. (i.e., 1 = 1, 2-4 = 2, 5-9 = 3, 10-16 = 4, etc). I'm currently doing (+10)(+35)(+5)(+27)(+5) with normal attacks, and (+4)(+6)(+3)(+6)(+3) with Clobber. (+13)(+38)(+8)(+30)(+8) became (+4)(+7)(+3)(+6)(+3). And (+13)(+35)(+8)(+27)(+8) became (+4)(+6)(+3)(+6)(+3). I think this is pretty much settled, unless someone has a contradictory data point?
    • Elemental damage against elemental monsters is doubled after the sqrt, not before. With the final one above, I did (+8)(+6)(+6)(+1)(+3) against a spooky-elemental monster.
  • With an Obsidian dagger (base power 30, 3-6 normal damage) in the main hand, and +26 melee damage, base damage was 10-13 (3-6 + 7) with Clobber, which ... doesn't fit the sqrt function, unless I have another +11 from somewhere that I don't know about. Adding another +10 melee damage (total +36) didn't change the base damage (still 10-13). Adding another 3 (+39 total) made no difference, either. Dropping it to +20, however, reduced base damage to the odd range 8-12 (which isn't 3-6 + anything), and dropping it to +7 reduced base damage to 7-10 (3-7 + 4). So it has something to do with +melee, but it's not immediately apparent what.
    • Hypothesis: Damage is (base main-hand weapon damage?) + (somefunction(+melee?)) + ceiling(sqrt(+hot)) + ceiling(sqrt(+cold)) + ceiling(sqrt(+stench)) + ceiling(sqrt(+spooky)) + ceiling(sqrt(+sleaze)) - The Wrassedragon 03:02, 17 December 2008 (UTC) (all of the immediately above seemingly-unsigned comments are mine)
  • Yeah, my idea of a +3 cap is not true; I just Clobbered with a beer bong while under Snarl, normally giving +15 stench and +10 spooky, and the pygmy headhunter I hit took +4 stench and +8 spooky. (sleaze critter). With the beer bong and a sewer turtle for +16 stench, I got +4 stench against a pygmy assault squad. With some dirty hobo gloves and the bong (and no sewer turtle) for +17 stench, I got +5 stench when clobbering a pygmy blowgunner. So, at least for elemental damage, a ceiling of the square root seems like the correct function. --Terion 18:33, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
