Potions

(up until January 06, 2015)

Today, each of my chars got a set that was a duplicate of one I'd seen before: super-spiky hair gel, Black Body™ spray, Texas tea (antipasta today, antimarty yesterday); Polysniff Perfume, sea grease, flask of rainwater (antimarty today, playultm8 yesterday). All three chars are seal clubbers with levels in the 30s. Doesn't seem random! --Antipasta (talk) 12:28, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

  • pygmy adder oil, fake blood, concentrated cordial of concentration, That an Avatar potion and a semirare. Yeesh! I think we should reserve any expectations until a whole lot more data points float down. I will admit, Antipasta does seem to have hit something that, if completely random, would be very, VERY unlikely. --Fluxxdog (talk) 16:28, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Got the following until today (seem to already have missed one day):
    • 1 tomato juice of powerful power
    • 1 flask of hamethyst juice
    • 1 pressurized potion of perception
    • 1 lotion of coldness
    • 1 lotion of spookiness
    • 1 gremlin juice
    • 1 Mer-kin smartjuice
    • 1 oil of slipperiness
    • 1 Connery's Elixir of Audacity

This was an effective way of organizing the confiscated stuff spading, so I'm doing it here, too.

Predicting results

  • It's starting to look like we'll be able to predict results based on the algorithm used to generate the potions. From the few results on the main page table:
Standard DB days 1-3 == Picky SA days 3-5
Standard AC days 1-2 == Picky DB days 3-4
so it looks like its generating a seed from classid + pathid + daycount (or something similar) and generating potions from that. This means we should be able to predict a lot of blanks, even for brand new paths. -Darkcodelagsniper (talk) 17:38, 17 January 2015 (UTC)
  • Taking into account that it looks like Boris and Standard DB have the same drops on day N, my current theory is that the seed uses ( (Pathid * 3) + (Classid * 7) + (Day * 5) ) -Darkcodelagsniper (talk) 02:01, 19 January 2015 (UTC)
  • I noticed something when I started this run, as a Pastamancer going into a KOLHS run, my first day potions are the same as an Oxycore AT on his 4th day (petting spray, handsomeness, ben-gal). As a not-yet-mentioned run, does that help confirm anything? --Rabbit House (talk) 00:50, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
    • That fits nicely. Oxy = Pathid 3, KOLHS = Pathid 15, AT = Classid 6, PM = Classid 3.
3*3 + 6*7 + 4*5 = 15*3 + 3*7 * 1*5 = 71
So KOLHS PM should continue to have the same results as Oxy AT minus 3 days. --Darkcodelagsniper (talk) 20:40, 25 January 2015 (UTC)
  • It seemed to mostly line up, but it's tailed off at the end. Days 2 and 3 were the same as Oxy AT 5 and 6, but I didn't get the same results for Oxy AT day 7. My Day 4 showed pressurized potion of pulchritude, Mer-kin fastjuice, seal-brain elixir. Minor point perhaps. I wonder if the run was ended on the seventh day, and if there is no longer an active path does it produce a different set of potions, like an aftercore selection? Not for me to know, I'll just keep half an eye out for potion results just in case. :) Rabbit House (talk) 01:29, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
    • That result for Oxy AT D7 was from Schlurp, I checked his ascension history and he freed the king on day 6. After freeing the king your pathid is 0 (which is no-path/unrestricted). Seeing as other results are all matching up, I'm confident that your KOLHS PM D4 result is the real Oxy AT D7 result, and I'll edit the page to reflect that. --Darkcodelagsniper (talk) 20:00, 29 January 2015 (UTC)
      • There was one result fom day 5 that I didn't get a clear record of unfortunately (while the last two potions were definitely tomato juice of powerful power and reodorant the first escaped me, not having anything unusual in my inventory lead me to think it may be spiky hair-gel) and from then on it picked up at Sauceror Picky (pressurized potion of perception, blood of the Wereseal, seal-brain elixir for day 6, and as expected from there). I know I haven't been ideal in terms of collecting actual potion results but the formula seems sound at least. Rabbit House (talk) 13:39, 31 January 2015 (UTC)

logic and proportion

  • we have a formula that gives a number. before we got that the path/class/day table was fine. now, though, this is irrelevant since it is the number that's important. how many different combinations are there? does it wrap? when? Does it generate pick one from n three times based on the number? from different lists? or just unduplicated? I quite like the table as is. what we really need, though, is one by number. starts at nine I believe, sc/d1/aftercore. a big table by number won't be enough. if we get to 31337 and it's still not repeating, what then? does the wiki do dynamic filtering of lists? if we work out the algorithm could we code up individual results pages? not that I could, of course Oh no. --Evilkolbot (talk) 17:48, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
    • I'm yet to see any matching combinations of potions appearing on days with non-matching numbers, so there's currently no evidence that it wraps (and there's not really any reason I can see for TPTB to implement it that way). My gut feeling on potion generation from seed is that it's 'pick one from <potion list> three times without duplication' using the number as the rng seed. --Darkcodelagsniper (talk) 21:46, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
    • Regarding how results are recorded on the wiki: A page listing potion results by id would be good, but would also be harder for the average user to fill in new results. It does give a good way of recording 'out of the ordinary' results like aftercore day 200, which have value in being able to predict other path results. --Darkcodelagsniper (talk) 21:46, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
      • I've put together a test version of this idea at User:Timrem/test pulling all current data from this page (good news: there was no conflicting data). I also put an auto-filled table at User:Timrem/sandbox that uses the first page's data. If we think this is a route we want to go down, expanding the table for any future paths would be very simple, but making sure editors put the correct data in the correct numbered case would require care and attention. --timrem (talk) 02:17, 31 March 2015 (UTC)
    • I was considering changing the tables to be based on number, but the potential combinations makes that weird. There's only so many classes and paths, but infinitely* many days. If the combinations exceeds something like 200 or so, a table of all results will probably not work. I was thinking we could have an extension that would allow you to put in a number in a textbox and output the results. There'd have to be a place where all the data was stored, though. — Cool12309 (talk) 00:29, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
      • If you're going that route, you could have dropdowns for path/class and a text box for day. Plus the option to input the raw number instead, of course. Though it sounds like something that would be easier to do off-wiki. --timrem (talk) 01:01, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
  • the table is looking fairly incomplete. i understand that until a combination is checked there's no way to tell if there are any anomalies. have we tested enough combinations yet to be able to assume that a value of 99 means what it means, and that a cell of, say, 99 can be filled in even if there's no explicit data for that day? is anyone with a list making an effort to fill in any missing values?
  • in other news, has there been any progress on an off-site calculator? --Evilkolbot (talk) 12:14, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

Ed the Undying challenge path

Ed the Undying. Not sure how to format this, but first day potions are: fabric hardener, pressurized potion of perception, vial of hamethyst juice.--landamus (talk) 06:58, 15 February 2015 (UTC)

Color

I was considering adding additional path/class combinations to the table using the known data, since the numbers and formula make doing so quite simple, but I ran into a problem: I can't figure out the color scheme. Is there a method to which path gets which color, or is it just arbitrary at this point? --timrem (talk) 19:30, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
