While fighting in the Crimbo Town Toy Factory, while carrying a Unionize The Elves sign, I was getting beaten up by the reindeer there and used a kite in desperation. From then on, the reindeer would hit for (about) 1/3 damage or miss completely. It also seemed to increase the chance of me hitting them. The item only helped if it was not eaten by a tree. Tested about 25 times and was consistant.
