Talk:Mer-kin prayerbeads

What exactly does this do? -- AvangionQ / March 14th, 2009

Guess, combined with the fact there are two new items in the outpost that reduce combat frequency, maybe there is a non-combat adventure that you need these for? --Joebob 14:05, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

My baseless speculation is that the prayerbeads will be good for something later - maybe when Granny wakes up. Given the lovecraftian overtones of the rumors and mer-kin magic, I tried wearing them at rollover and also resting at my campsite to see if it would trigger some weird dreams ala The Call of Cthulhu, but nothing happened. I adventured in the camp with jacked up non-combat, but nada(this was when the camp showed up,but then eel sauce wasn't good for anything until a short time ago.) Grandpa didn't react when I wore them while visiting and he didn't have anything to say about "prayerbeads."--Noskilz 16:31, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

The Prayerbeads could probably help in warding off the Raider's special moves, or might have a mechanic similar to Colonol Mustard's (the variable one)--The ErosionSeeker 22:15, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Along those same lines, I've been adventuring in the trench, particularly based upon the text of the mer-kin healscroll.--Joebob 17:30, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

The strange tiki idol immediately jumped to mind when I saw this. The description of the idols says that you feel uneasy as well. Not to say that I think Ak'gyxoth is specifically involved, but just that Noskilz's assumption that it is "evil god" related makes the most sense. Bakapyrite 15:59, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

A thought

Its effect is "Makes you feel uneasy". Don't those words make you feel uneasy? Self-fulfilling effect name. --Raijinili 11:21, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

I've been adventuring in the Outpost with only +40.7% item drops and the necklace, and I'm still getting drops occasionally. Perhaps it lets you get drops from the zone without dealing with (some) of the underwater penalty? That would be a lot of underwater mitigation though...--Pianoal 19:49, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

  • +40.7% items is always good enough for drops on the see floor. If that doesn't account for the floor's pressure penalty (and if you're using Mafia, then Mafia accounts for those), then you're only at -59.3% items, which is good enough to still get some (just at about 40% of the rate listed on the monster pages). You have to run -100% items total (or more) to see nothing drop. --Flargen 20:39, 21 June 2009 (UTC)

Another Thought

Was just thinking that whatever the effect may be, it must have some overlapping significance since you can only wear 1 of them at a time. surely we can rule out some possibilities with this method of elimination? the whole "feeling uneasy" thing reminds me of the crypt, so maybe there's some connection or possibly a connection to something spooky-aligned. another thought is that it might have something to do with eating/drinking certain food/booze. --Talq 10:41, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

the beads could likely affect items that give effects, and may result in a longer duration of that effect--The ErosionSeeker 13:56, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Didn't they specifically say on the radio show that this effect doesn't do anything yet, but will be related to later sea roll-outs? (This was quite a while ago... I'm just going from memory.) In any case, the uneasy wording is just running with the whole Lovecraftian thing, unlikely to be ever tied to spooky damage. And there's no particular reason to think it will extend effects, though that's really easy to test if you're so inclined.--Starwed 14:47, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Mer-kin Temple boss-battle

I equipped three of these in my fight against Yog-Urt, Elder Goddess of Hatred. I received the following message in the first round of combat: The prayerbeads on your wrist begin to emit a deep purple light. Yog-Urt's tongue briefly recoils back into her horrible mouth. --Pilomotor (talk) 01:41, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

A single data point and some questions.

With 3 Mer-kin prayerbeads equipped the "More Like a Suckrament" effect dissipated after the 6th round of combat with Yog-Urt. Have as yet had no personal experience but my understanding is with 0 equipped this happens after the 10th round of combat.

Is with 3 equipped after round 6 a fixed result? What is the combat round the effect is lost with 2 equipped? With 1 equipped?

With a single set of beads equipped, Suckrament went away on the 7th round of combat. --TechSmurf (talk) 03:25, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

  • With three sets equipped, it went away on the 5th round.
    • And with two sets, it went away on the 6th. Looks like each set reduces the duration of the effect by one round. --TechSmurf (talk) 03:31, 30 May 2013 (UTC)
