Talk:Mind flayer

From A KoL Wiki

I'm correcting an issue about the mind flayer to DnD reference. The issue is the fact that, even in DnD, Mind Flayers are commonly called Mind Flayers. Illithids is a reference to the species of Mind Flayers, their larval forms, and some of the cousin species that result from using nonhumans. Note "Illithid" can also be applied to neothelids, but is not common for obvious reasons.--LilithTaveril 23:11, 11 January 2006 (Central Standard Time)

Corpses

  • perhaps a note should be added to give jick & co's explanation of why things can be pickpocketed for their own corpses. --Evilkolbot 13:40, 16 March 2007 (CDT)

Reference

The Confusion effect is probably referencing NetHack (along with all other Dungeons of Doom monsters) where the successful physical attack of a mind flayer can cause amnesia (erasing known spells, items and portions of the map) and reduces the Intelligence statistic. As all items encountered are always fully identified in KoL, and the map is permanent (to an extent) then this effect would be the only way to penalise the player... -- Kalon999 02:11, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

New drop

killed one just now dropped a "flayed mind" "flayed mind

This is a slice of a brain that has seen better cogitatin' days. All of its skin has been removed by a mind flayer. So at least we know it's a brain from one of those species that have skin on their brains.
I mean, like, directly on it, not on top of a skull that houses a brain. C'mon, man.
   Type: potion
   Effect: Flayer Flavor
   Duration: 50 Adventures
   Selling Price: 5 Meat."

"Flayer Flavor

You look like a mind flayer. It's actually a little terrifying.

Makes you look like a mind flayer"--Ganomex 17:30, 19 September 2012 (CEST)
