Talk:Origami Towel Crane

From A KoL Wiki

This familiar is along the same lines as the Teddy Bear. I've been using it for quite a few turns now, and I just got it to defend me at 17 lbs.

"Tron IV flaps/flops between you and your opponent, absorbing the brunt of its attack. Lint flies everywhere."

I took no damage. Didn't notice how much/if its experience went down. ErstwhileWarrior 00:04, 8 November 2006 (CST)

This would make sense based on the familiar equipment (Can of Starch) for the Origami Towel Crane, as its effect is along the same lines as the Teddy Bear's. "Makes Origami Towel Crane More Resistant to Wear and Tear"--Azp2k32 00:11, 8 November 2006 (CST)

Upon further observation, it did lose experience. With the equipment equipped I would APPROXIMATE that it lost about 4 or 5 kills worth of experience. ErstwhileWarrior 00:17, 8 November 2006 (CST)
I thought you rponounced towel with two syllables...Kewangji 10:52, 8 November 2006 (CST)
I've heard it pronounced "towl". Much like "owl", but with a "t" out front.--Id the Mildly Confused 11:14, 8 November 2006 (CST)

I was just using one lvl 15 with the can against the giants i would have probably take about 40-50 damage and the crane lost 31 expirence.

You guys can go ahead and get all mad if you like, but without further spadework I'm prepared to state based on the message I received that at least one of its at least one other abilities is based on the potato.--Id the Mildly Confused 19:39, 8 November 2006 (CST)

Shadow

  • When used against the shadow, does the towel disappear from your terrarium/familiar spot, or does it just disable its blocking attack? --Civilizati 3 15:53, 21 November 2006 (CST)
    • My guess is that it just disables the blocking attack, just as with the Teddy Bear. --Quietust (t|c) 16:53, 21 November 2006 (CST)

Ant Pick

When fighting with the Origami Towel Crane equipped with an ant pick, the familiar does an attack for cold-damage with the following message: "X lodges the ice-cold pick in your enemy, dealing X damage." (cold) Zacharous 06:34, 30 August 2008 (CDT)

Scratch that, and memo to self: check familiar item pages before posting anything. Zacharous 06:36, 30 August 2008 (CDT)

Possible Formula For Exp Loss

I was fooling around with an origami crane and a high-level seal clubber. I observed an exp loss of 14 while fighting gremlins. I then tinkered with damage reduction and absorption to see if a more damaging attack or less damaging attack would increase or decrease the exp lost. No such luck. I then tried adding Monster Level, and lo and behold I started seeing exp losses of 15 per block.

I then decreased my moxie to 1 (using Embarrassed, Apathy, Soul-Crushing Headache, and Beaten Up). I adventured in the pantry, and found exp loss was only 1. (Monsters easily hit me because of the low moxie.) I then went over to Menagerie Level 1. Here are my results:

  • Against the BASIC Elemental, a loss of 4 exp with +0 ML, 5 exp with +15 ML AND can of starch equipped, 6 exp with +25 ML
  • Against the Mutant, a loss of 4 exp with +0 ML, both with and without the can of starch.
  • Against the Fruit Golem, 6 exp with and without +15 ML, all without the can of starch, 5 exp with a can of starch, and 7 exp without a can of starch and +25 ML.

So the experience loss appears to be based on Monster Level, and can be affected my ML modifiers. What still needs to be determined:

  • What that exact formula is...it appears to be ML/11 or ML/12, in that general range.
  • Does the can of starch just subtract 1 from experience loss?
  • What effect do ML modifiers during combat have?

More to come... --Foggy 23:36, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

Experimented with a beanbat, ML 21.

  • At -2 to ML, blocking an attack caused -1 EXP.
  • At -1 to +11 ML, -2 EXP
  • At +12 to +24 ML, -3 EXP
  • At +25 to +32 ML (highest level tested), -4 EXP

I also tested against a dire fluffy bunny, +0 ML, and had -1 EXP.

What this seems to suggest is that the formula for exp loss seems to be max(1,(ML-6)/13). More to come...--Foggy 22:40, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

The formula for exp loss is probably the level that is recommended for that monster/area, which should explain pantry and junkyard. However, it seemed to have "unweighted" when mother slime hot me ~7 times. Or the exp loss is dmg/10 rounded up to nearest 1.
