Talk:Random Lack of an Encounter
As of initial implementation, none of the choices do anything. They just use an adventure and go to a blank "Adventure Again:" result. Sigh. --Poingpoingsplat 13:45, 2 October 2007 (CDT)
I submitted a bug report; my guess is that this is a new adventure that was leaked prematurely. --Nucleon 13:54, 2 October 2007 (CDT)
- Not really premature, just not fully released all at once, I'm assuming. This was mentioned as being released in the updates thread created by Jick, so I highly doubt it's a 'leak'. Give TPTMBG some time to get everything rolled out fully. --AtroPhied 13:59, 2 October 2007 (CDT)
Stat gains
- Trying to spade out the "head to the galley". Discounting the Muscle gain (as it's a stat day), I'm getting 27-33 in each stat, and taking 40-50 damage. Gonna update the page to match. --Wildfire393 14:25, 2 October 2007 (CDT)
- Anyone care to present evidence as to the "Head to the Galley" choice giving 18 minimum stat. I've had this adventure roughly 25 times so far (so thus 75 total stat gains), and have yet to see a stat gain less than 27.--Wildfire393 00:24, 4 October 2007 (CDT)
- Fixed the stat gain formula. It should have been a max function, not min; we want the higher of 0 or the noncombat modifier. And I got 26 Sarcasm with +15% noncombat; assuming the formula is correct (grabs pinch of salt,) the average could be as low as 20 with no +noncombat, so 18 would not be unreasonable. Of course, who goes here without +noncombat? wink. --Terion 19:19, 27 April 2008 (CDT)
- Oh, thanks for the fix. You can see the original data here.--QuantumNightmare 19:44, 27 April 2008 (CDT)
monster-by-choice with ML
Some inital spading info by friendly neighbourhood HCO spaders seems to suggest that by upping the ML by certain amount you can get your own choice of monsters. So far it seems +20 ML and more gives you Mechs, the rest is still being spaded out.
More later tomorrow, I'll use my radio and other +5 and +10 to map out 0 to 20, 4 adventures each.--Sp8z 22:01, 31 May 2008 (CDT) +20 -> Mechs +15 -> Quiet Healer
reference
I think that the line "It's like they're trying to get 100% of the treasure in the world, or something." is a reference to ppl that are trying to get every item in the kingdom... --Shualdon 15:58, 2 October 2007 (CDT)
- More generally, this most likely refers to people who play RPGs like those referenced in the Airship with an obsessive urge to collect everything and everything in them, complete with an oh-so-proud "100%" mark on their save file. CaptainSpam 16:10, 2 October 2007 (CDT)
Or that in some of the later Final Fantasy games, there were statistics on which items you've collected and the rest were marked as ????'s until you found 100% of the treasure in the world. I'd put my money on it being this, since everything else falls into the FF theme.--WhiskeyJack 16:11, 2 October 2007 (CDT)(ninja'd)
It also sounds like a reference to Skies of Arcadia, where in order to unlock extra content at the end of the game, the player had to have found every single treasure chest in the game, which could become impossible if you missed one early on. --Brikoth 22:45, 27 November 2007 (CST)
not to mention the anime show One Piece where the plot is about pirates on a ship looking for One Piece which is all the treasure in the world, previously owned by the pirate king. in One Piece, the plot also takes the characters to a place called Sky Island which is a island in the sky made out of clouds. --Krater 12:37, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
And on, and on, and on...
Contrary to what was asserted in an editing comment, you can indeed get more than two "and on..." lines; I've just gotten 3. Anybody wanna figure out how the "and ons" are controlled? --Hellion 11:33, 10 October 2007 (CDT)
The number definitely goes up the more +noncombat effects you have. I got about 10 lines at +25%. --Friederike 08:47, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
- Spaded. 2 "and on" displayed by default. For every 3.0% of noncombat modifiers applied, an extra "and on" is added. This is effected by +ML.--QuantumNightmare 02:23, 14 October 2007 (CDT)
- I'll note here that the effect of +ML on the number of "and on..."'s is still present, even though it no longer affects +noncombats. Not quite certain yet if it still affects the stat gains. That's a work in progress. --Flargen 02:38, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, never mind. Jick says that was a bug, and is now fixed. --Flargen 03:24, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

many times at once
Am i just getting lucky, or does anyone else seem to be getting this adventure many times in one bunch, then none for a while, then a nother bunch?I've adventured like 40 times today, and only got this 6 times- 3 in a row, monster, 2, monster, 1 time. It happened for the last 200 odd adventures. anyone know why? --Ursper 18:32, 3 January 2008 (CST)
- and whether the combats affect the combat order counter thingie (drawing a blank on the term, makes it less likely to get the same combats over and over by making an encounter less likely after getting it)? It's really frustrating to attempt the bounty here without access to +20 ML and get fifty of these...--Lukarnis 14:43, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
still +20 for mechamechs?
While doing some bounty hunting on a multi, I'm running +24ML (carnivore + 9 on the radio). Two of the Random Lacks of an Encounter, choice #1, resulted in monsters other than the Mechamechs. What's going on? Aukermdr 03:46, 10 February 2012 (CET)
- Whoops, also wearing a nasty rat mask for -5ML. Never mind! Aukermdr 03:46, 10 February 2012 (CET)
