Talk:Server Spiders
Necessary?
Is this page really necessary? Sure, it's annoying that KoL is down, but unless this spawns some crazy world event, I don't think it's going to be more than a footnote in the annals of history. And at any rate, we certainly don't need both this page and Maroon Monday. Opinions? --Johnny Treehugger 20:27, 28 June 2011 (CEST)
- This page seems more like it was written for a 1930s newspaper. "flash! kol is down! flash! i want to play my turns!" I prefer the style of Maroon Monday, more fact, less editorial.--Plater (t|c) 22:41, 28 June 2011 (CEST)
- Delete both of them. If it's really desirable to preserve anything it could be much more compactly summarized in a line or two within History of Loathing (2011). --Fig bucket 23:07, 28 June 2011 (CEST)
- i'd have to agree to the pull them both as they stand opinion expressed above. it is sort of game content, though. j&s output. and i like the image a lot. so maybe there is a place for it. how, i'm too tired to think. --Evilkolbot 00:07, 29 June 2011 (CEST)
Maroon Monday Page Text
I just deleted the Maroon Monday page. I don't think anything there was particular worth putting here that wasn't already, but just in case there are some dissenters, here's a copy of the text --Flargen 05:45, 7 August 2011 (CEST)
Maroon Monday is one of the names being used to describe the June 27th 2011 spider infestation of the old server (2). The other names being debated are Mauve Monday and Manic Monday. During the downtime all data was transferred to the new server (which was standing by awaiting the time Jick and co. were ready to transfer.) Many people lost the entire day, many more lost most of the game day. Maroon Monday took place on a mysticality day, which means many players had banked turns... and at the beginning of game-day chose food, drink, and spleen items geared for max adventures for the stat day. Hundreds of turns were lost.
Maroon Monday was quickly followed, to many people's dismay, by Teal Tuesday, as some are calling it, on June 28th 2011 when the second server got infested by spiders. Many people appear to have lost quest items, and become unable to have buffs stick to them. Jick and crew pulled server 1 down for several hours this time, transferring to the new server the "right" way and not the "emergency way" of Maroon Monday's transfers.
Meanwhile, the forums split into two factions: The people pissed at Jick and crew and blaming them, and those supporting them. Many people did not grasp the fact that servers tend to have issues at some point in their lifespan, just like humans, and it was not Jick's fault.
A second (related) mini-war broke out, with group 1 writing letters to Jick and co. and group 2 flaming not the content but the existence of the letters.
There were also ideas, we all know how much Jick hates those from players, for a new Web Server Spider IotM for July to commemorate The Spider Infestation of 2011. Also ideas about tattoos and world events, and begging for special items. Buffs have been returned and KoL is back up.

Unless I missed something, stat days no longer exist so what's this about people banking turns for Myst day? PC_Goldman 18:29, 29 June 2011 (CEST)
In a rollover template:
We are currently in the process of moving data from an old server to a new one, which was revealed this morning to be full of spiders. It's not a really serious emergency, because the spiders aren't venomous, but it's a sort-of emergency, because they're definitely spiders.
The game will be down for the next few hours. We will keep you posted in this forum thread as events unfold.
Why not check out one of the following things in the meantime:
The official KoL Forums
KoL ColdFront, the official fan site
Radio KoL -- the unofficial Shoutcast station (24k stream / 64k stream)
Please note that Radio KoL is uncensored, unscripted, and is not intended for children or the easily offended. Or easily offended children.

Do we really have to give this a cutesy color nickname? Black Sunday made sense, because it was a reference to Black Tuesday at the beginning of the Great Depression. White Wednesday was okay, because the entire game was gone for a couple days. But what the heck does this have to do with the color maroon? Sure, you can probably pull some sort of justification out of your butt, but it won't be obvious, and it will only contribute further to a trend of nonsensical names for the most minor of events. I vote for this page being renamed to something more informative. --Southwest 22:34, 29 June 2011 (CEST)
- I think the general consensus is that is page should be merged into Server Spiders. --Johnny Treehugger 22:48, 29 June 2011 (CEST)
- Or better yet, merge it into the History of Loathing or some such appropriate information list. I don't think this needs its own page. Especially considering how it is written. We don't have stat days any more for starters. --PC_Goldman 22:52, 29 June 2011 (CEST)
