Talk:Topiary golem

From A KoL Wiki

Dear Abby

I don't know if there has been a change to the new or not, but I'm getting hurt sometimes and my moxie is 270. It only happens when the golem 'steps on a pile of fertilizer', but it wallops me for 30-40 each time this happens.

Am I missing something here? Otherwise, I plan to add a note about this because it seems like a clear exception to the Safe Adventuring strategy.

You're missing the new "Monsters can get critical hits" change that rolled out a couple of days ago, rending the entire "safe adventuring" process much less safe. --Hellion 16:04, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

Oh, OK.. I see. Now I remember the "much less safe" comment, but I didn't realize what that really meant. Anyone know if crits are avoidable at a higher moxie, or just completely unavoidable?--Pansy Lover 16:45, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

  • Hits have been reported on characters with upwards of 600 base moxie, so I'm gonna say they're pretty much unavoidable. --Hellion 16:52, 1 September 2006 (CDT)

The topiary golem seems to be immune from normal weapons (on two different characters with different classes). However, it can be hit by combat objects, so I finally defeated it using photoprotoneutron torpedos. I don't want to edit the article without independant confirmation, since this is a huge change from previous behavior.

I've missed on hedge mazes at a high enough items++ that mafia/monsterstats thought I was at 100% to get the puzzle: so the drop rate is probably 60%, which is consistent with Yiab's result above. --DirkDiggler 16:28, 3 March 2007 (CST)

Yeah, you're not the only one. So I'll update the page with the 60% value. —Dentarthurdent(T,C) 12:27, 4 April 2007 (CDT)

  • Does anyone have the topiary golem's acting initiative, or are these things just not figured out?--Soup of can 00:04, 19 November 2007 (CST)
    • There's a link to the HCO spading on the Combat Initiative page, although I have no idea how up-to-date it is. --Bagatelle 16:55, 20 November 2007 (CST)

I think the drop rate might be below 60% now. i've been going after them for like three days now, but i haven't got one yet.

  • Not one in 3 days? Try checking the enchantments on ALL your equipment . . . (Eran of Arcadia cant find the tilde on this keyboard.)

References

'The golems could also be a reference to the hedge maze animals that come to life in Stephen King's "The Shining".' I have my doubts about this reference; the zork one seems more likely, unless we want to list every instance where people got attacked in a hedge by monsters.--Dehstil (t|c) 15:36, 15 August 2006 (CDT)

"He starts to attack, but is distracted by the pale guy with a bunch of scissors for hands who is giving him a manicure. This could be a reference to an episode of the Simpsons, where Ned Flanders has scissor type things on his hands and uses it to trim his hedge sculpture." dre5922

Uh...it's rather obviously a reference to Edward Scissorhands. The Simpsons episode was a reference to this movie as well.--MaskedLihc 01:18, 8 August 2007 (CDT)

The golems have a higher ML now. It's definitively around 200 or more. --Tripwood 18:55, 19 August 2007 (CDT)

I agree with Tripwood. I beat a golem with 250 damage (elemental), and another at 254, but their HP is above 200.--Phantamines 17:28, 23 August 2007 (CDT)

I have 244 buffed, 190 unbuffed moxie, and I'm still getting hit by normal attacks. --Syrja 06:35, 7 January 2008 (CST)

Changes?

I'm not entirely certain, and there has been no note in the trivial or significant updates, but the drop rate on the puzzles has been dreadful in the past few days. I've used 60-90 adventures a day and only acquired one puzzle a day. Usually late in the adventures. I may just have absolutely awful luck, but seeing only three puzzles in around 200 adventures seems odd to me. Anyone else having this problem? --Muhfin 04:01, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm guessing your in-game name is Muhfin (#1392079), who is wearing the SCUBA. That -100% item drop would certainly kill your puzzle drop rate ;) --Lordebon 05:41, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
... Okay. Yeah. I'm an idiot. --Muhfin 15:58, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Rave-tastic

So I'm using the Disco Bandit rave skill chain thingy what lets you steal an item from the enemy. It's succeeding every time, a much higher success rate than the get-the-jump pickpocket. Anybody done any research to see if the maze puzzle is a guaranteed steal, ala the filthworm glands? --Vexingthoughts 21:08, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

  • Rave steal is a 100% guaranteed steal of any non-conditional item. --Erich 21:23, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
