Talk:White Wednesday

From A KoL Wiki

sucks, but hey, things happen. good work on covering it up with the temporal rift story, jick. wonderful job, im impressed (and by no means mad, things happen) --boylizard

Shoulden't it be Oct 25, because that is when the event began, no?--Abs0lut3 z3r0 19:43, 26 Oct 2005 (MDT)

i put all my valuables into my display case before i ascended HC the other day.... i hope display cases are ok.... so if we had a empty Hagnks storage 6 weeks ago, and then everything got put into storage, say, monday, then that means everything is gone, does it? ooo woe is me! --LiquidPhire 16:13, 26 Oct 2005 (MDT)

I can see this wreaking havoc on those of us with less than perfect memories as to what exactly we have in Hagnk's. Compound this with multis, possible display case problems, gift boxes being purged, and all the other assorted nightmares that may be upcoming and we have quite the headache on our hands. Regardless, I'm rather excited to be around for this event. It's sure to go down in KoL lore in quite the same way Black Sunday has. I just wonder what Jick and crew has cooked up as their "bit of in-game goodies" mentioned on the forums. At least we can all say that we were there on White Wednesday.--TheNixFactor 16:41, 26 Oct 2005 (MDT)

If what Jick's saying is true, and I have no reason to not believe him, then I'm so biffed. I ascended recently, and so just all my stuff was still in Hagnk's. Most of the star stuff is gone, thankfully I had no Mr. Store objects in there, and I really can't remember much else... still, everything's going to be wiped. What I'm more looking foward to is seeing what in-game goodies are going to come from this. I'm listening to Radio KOL, and I'll have to see what's going to happen. --Aasimar42 19:27, 26 Oct 2005 (EST)

I still like my idea of calling today Ragnarok. It's got the whole doomsday theme thats been going around, along with the "gn" used by a particular gnome that's essentially dead. --Blodax Devourer of Souls 19:01, 26 Oct 2005 (MDT)

I am totally depressed .. and I really don't care what special stuff or events are coming .. I don't have anything left as it was all in storage. I doubt if I'll come back to the game, it just isn't worth to have put that much time into it and lose it all.  :-< Ok, so I'm a little less depressed now that I've figured out that I did an inventory of my stuff just before I ascended and might be able to get my stuff back AND my meat won't be gone .. --corhub 12:35 PM, 27 Oct 2005 (CDT)

I may be the only person unaffected by this, b/c i have nothing valuble. But i thought i'd put in my two cents i'l post what i lost/gained when it's back up. -Keithizzle

  • While there is reason for concern about our skills and items that were in Hagnk's I believe that Jick will be able to restore things pretty much back to the way they were. In the mean time it is possible that we will be getting some cool swag and new adventures out of the deal. Perhaps some one should create a website or e-mail account for players to contact and detail if they had lost items and such. Such things should not be sent directly Jick as there are those who will see Jick's generous nature as a way to get things they did not have before. Infact I will start the account. If you have lost items I will be compiling a list to send in at kolwhitewednesdayrelief@gmail.com. When sending in your information please include your player id number, your character name, what items you are missing, the number you are missing, and their location at the time of white wednesday, ie Hangk's, display case, inventory, closet, etc. Doing this will allow Jick and company to go back in the database and fix things. Please limit your reports to 1 e-mail per character. I will be accepting reports on lost items until November 4th. At that point I will compile the report and submit it to Jick and CO. - silverwolf727 20:12 Oct 26, 2005-
  • Jick and company have a system in place for getting items back to people so you should use those routes rather then the e-mail account that I had set up. - silverwolf727 21:04 Oct 26, 2005-

- Oh well. Nothing really worth losing... Except for my Doppelshifter! NO! DON'T GO SHIFTA! YOUR ALMOST 40 LBS! T_T At least I can save some of the items I DO remember having... Eeps... ~DeejValen

Repent, ye, for the Slightly-Past-the-Midpoint Times are upon us! A multitude of Demoninjas rising from the depths! A host of Junks and Trouser Snakes descending from the heights! The gates of the Naughty Sorceress' Castle opening and spilling forth her twisted mechinations! Mysteious Islands rising from the sea! Woe upon the Kingdom! Only King Ralph holds the Boris's, Sneaky Pete's, Jarlsberg's, Mon, Richard's Star, Skeleton, and Pixel keys to our salvation!
For now, though, we can blame the penguins. those stupid bread-eaters.

Calling it Ragnorok, good idea. I'm in hardcore anyway, and I intend on being here for a *very* long time. I had nothing of value, nothing I couldn't get back, in Hangk's, except my Stainless Steel [insert name of SS item you get from HC sauceror ascension]. The only other thing I would be pissed to lose is my HC permanent abilities, but he said those are easily verifyed and restored. Also looking forward to how Jick hinted there might be some sort of special "I was there" items involved when this is all done. --Erau qssi dlro weht

I considered this as October 26th because most of the stuff is taking place during this day. The information and corrections are being mentioned today, and it's all being discussed today.. so I picked it on today. Plus White Wednesday kinda rolls off the tongue, no? ~Knux7

Oh yay! No offense, but way to go Jick. Hey this might almost be good for me because I actually had some money then. ^_^ I wonder if we got a store in the last six weeks will we still have it? -Waterbou

So, checking in again, and according to the latest post by Jick, the server won't be up until Thursday rollover at the earliest. However, it is said that the meat is Hagnk's should be fine, along with closets. Display shelves, on the other hand, look to be a little more complicated. So I guess the more information we get, the more evenly things seem to be split between good and bad news. So hey, I vote we pass the time by predicting what exactly we'll get out of this in regards to the "I was there" stuff that Jick mentioned. With the term White Wednesday being pretty much the de facto term for this, the impending Billy Idol reference will likely be too good a chance for the crew to pass up, so I think we're going to get a trophy or something similiar with the ref on it. Personally, I'd prefer some kind of exclusive familiar, no matter how utterly useless it is. It would be just something to brag about having. Maybe something like a familiar version of the finger of f8 monster in the NS' tower. Or some kind of destructive computer mouse. Something that will break the fourth wall. It probably won't happen, though. Anyway, I'd like to hear what other people think about this. It's always fun to hear what creative things people think up. Besides, it sure beats all the "ApoKoLyptic" talk that's going around. After all, this is only a game. :P--TheNixFactor 22:28, 26 Oct 2005 (MDT)

I'm a little worried about my stuff in Hangk's, since I managed to ascend again yesterday, and had only removed the first handful of items (what excellent timing!). Most of it is just a collection of one of each of the common items, but I had cooked up a big batch of food and cocktails in preparation for accension. It's kinda hard to work out what my character had 6 weeks ago, but I don't think I'd accended yet, so I figure since then I've accrued mostly only a few assorted gems (baconstone etc), a few accension only items (enchanted toothpick, balaclava, etc) and a few zapped rings of adornment. All in all, not that hard to replace, and I'm confident Jick will work out something that will compensate for it. What I miss most already is a daily escape from reality/work. I'm on KOL withdrawl! Teffania

Why does the article say that Black Sunday was intentional? Jick definately didn't want Black Sunday to happen either. --Payback 09:23, 27 Oct 2005 (MDT)

Black Sunday was not intentional by Jick, you're right; but it was intentional by somebody, as White Wednesday was a full accident that nobody would have wanted.

About the goodies.. yeah, i'd like a trophy, or maybe just some kind of equippable accessory. I was kind of thinking of something along the lines of a "Mr. Ow" and have it either do nothing, or do something.. lol doesn't matter to me either way. I just thought it'd be cool to have. ~Knux7 12:35pm EST October 27 2005

Well, it's Thursday night, and well past the usual roll-over time here, by a good half-hour. And the annoucment goes up on KOL Radio that it'll be back up within an hour! Hurray, the long White Night is over! --Aasimar42 23:22 PM, 27 Oct 2005

Back again. It's 3:14 AM here, Friday, October 28th, and KoL is back online! Everyone got a free petrified time in their backpacks, at least I did, and now a whole new area has been unlocked in the plains, a Temporal Rift... and on the others side is really cool. I may have lost all my stuff in Hangk's, but really, it's all about the cool new stuff. Now, I think the Rift is going to close in a few days. What do you guys think of the tradeoff? --Aasimar42

Whoa. The White Wednesday page is completely white. Ironic, but I'd revert it if I knew how. --Silophant 07:29, 3 August 2007 (CDT)

The latest version that is not blank for me is http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php?title=White_Wednesday&oldid=34704

Anything later than that results in a white page. Jimmy the Bard 21:29, 3 August 2007 (CDT)
