Ascension

First thoughts

In order to ascend there are a fair lot of things which need to be done, some quest related, some for other purposes. I don't have a scope yet and not too many perms yet, so there are some other considerations here than when looking at people with a lot of perms. I'm listing the things that need to be done in my current environment and might speculate a bit about alternative routes.

My main aim is daycount and thus generating turns is valued as much, if not more than cutting them.

Managing limited resources

There are some per day limited resources available during ascension, which require some extra thoughts on what to use them for during ascension.

Food

With 15 fullness to work with per day the diet is something to plan out and work towards before running out of adventures (and ending up eating cottage cheese...). With Pastamastery and Advanced Saucecrafting permed I have access to 3 Dry noodles and 3 Scrumptious reagents per day.

The hardest day to cover with fewer perms is day 1, not hitting level 6 means no reagent pasta and only three noodles means 4 spaghetti's are not an option either. I'll start looking into clovering the Kitchens, hoping for spices and then making an Insanely spicy enchanted bean burrito (which also helps with the hidden city in my current moxie runs). After that I'd be able to use 3 spaghetti's, a badass pie and a fortune cookie

When I get Hellion cubes on day 2 I can start eating reagent pasta and therewith cover 12 of my fullness. There is some swing on the amount of cubes I am getting without sniffing, if I don't get 8 cubes I wait until The Goatlet and depending on the amount of milk I get farming for another cheese or two can be worth it to get more milk along with it or clover in the Kitchens for more reagent pasta. Although maybe it isn't really worth it for a day 6, as that is the day I should get the NS down for sure anyways so turngen stops to matter there.

Milk of magnesium can generate up to ten adventure per consumption as non-sauceror. Glass of goat's milk is only available from level 8 on this is out of the picture for day 1 and seems hard to get done on day 2 as well thus far. Assuming I start killing goats on day 3, and keep doing that until I have 6 cheese, the expected number of glasses of goat milk with an item drop rate lower than 150 % is 3. If I get 3 glasses I prefer using them at the end of stat day 1, and beginning of stat day 2 to allow me to get those 30 adventures on stat days rather than on earlier days.

Since October 2010 there is another thing to keep in mind for your diet which is badass pies. It is pretty good food at 4.5 adv/full which is the major draw for early days, and is worth about 8 adventures of running a volleyball assuming you get 20 combat adventures after eating it. I am trying to figure out how to get the most out of this at the moment and will put some more thoughts here later.

Booze

Booze is a lot more straightforward than food, prior to liver I'd be drinking 4 Advanced cocktails with two 1 drunkness fillers, after liver 5 Advanced cocktails with one regular cocktail prior to overdrinking. Use the barrels if you can't get your hands on base booze.

Maybe a bit more on gathering basic booze, if you go for inaboxen you'l get enough at the fun house, more booze will be acquired at goatlet and pirates which should last you through the rest of your run, if not you can always yellow ray a Booze giant.

Spleen

Spleen is very straightforwards as well, 1 or 2 roc feathers on day two with 1 agua and possibly 1 coffee stick if you didn't get your hands on a second feather. From day 2 on 2 aguas and 1 coffee stick.

Clan hall

  • Mr. Klaw: Some free meat
  • DeLuxe Mr. Klaw: Some more free meat
  • Crimbo tree: Only usable once a week so keep this available for serious speed runs, 500 meat on day 1 or some free MP.
  • Hot tub (5/day): Full heal, clears all negative effects. Can get rid of beaten up when you manage to screw up.
  • Pool table (3/day): I mostly like to use this for the 10 % item drops in whichever zones require most item drops for the day.

Yellow rays

The He-Boulder has a yellow ray attack which yields all non-conditional items from a target. This is great to get outfits and for stacking up on certain kinds of consumables. I tend to use one ray on day 1, and 2 rays on subsequent days. The first ones are for the obvious outfits:

  • Day 1: Hippy outfit
  • Day 2: Harem Outfit + perfume, KGE outfit
  • Day 3: Dwarf, Booze giant
  • Day 4: MagiMechTech MegaMech, Swarm of Scarab Beatles
  • Day 5: Bob racecar, Guard Gland
  • Day 6: NS items

Free runaways

In HC there are two sources of free runaways, bander and champagne poppers. The main use of bander runaways is burning delay or hunting NC's in zones that otherwise yield poor stats and/or item drops. As I don't have access to sniffing yet the banishing effect of champagne poppers is valuable in selecting the encounters I want to face. I tend to save up my champagne poppers until I hit the goatlet so I can get rid of Sabre-toothed goat in the que and get my cheese faster while still picking up some whiskey.
