Big Yellow Taxi

  • hmm. i'd say it was common because the song is both awesome and nearly fifty years old. can you find it anywhere else? specifically, anywhere else that predates joni? not saying you're wrong, just need a little, er, proof. --Evilkolbot
    • Since the phrasing isn't the same (look at the lyrics and then look at the description), I'm going by concept, and that's an old concept. Citizen kane uses it as a theme, for example.--Toffile 22:53, 10 October 2011 (CEST)
      • perhaps you should read up on copyright. it's not whether the idea is old, it's whether these exact words have been used before. and, further, whether tptb found them through there or not. and "don't know what you got till it's gone" from a massive thirty seconds googling is pretty clearly ms mitchell's and hers alone. --Evilkolbot 01:01, 11 October 2011 (CEST)

MP at rollover from houses

I'm surprised that the MP and HP given at rollover isn't mentioned on this page. http://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/index.php/The_Campground --Lemon-claw 23:44, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Bookshelf

Heh, what ^ said, on the Your Mystical Bookshelf page! I used my data, though, because I know it's correct (I used Excel). Just thought I'd let you know :-) --Nossidge 12:33, 4 January 2008 (CST)

Yeah I used Excel to. It's right...well with the exception of my typo for 45 to 46. Everything elese was off by 1 :P--Toffile 12:34, 4 January 2008 (CST)

Oscus

I am interested in how you got the value of 6500-7000 for Oscus's HP. I killed him with 6038 damage. --MindlessGames 19:27, 25 June 2008 (CDT)

eggtat.gif

Your advertisement filter seems to have detected the "/ad/" in the full path for eggtat.gif and decided to block it. --Quietust (t|c) 11:32, 4 August 2008 (CDT)

Thanks. I'm not using my normal computer, so the settings were a bit off.--Toffile 12:16, 4 August 2008 (CDT)

Halloween items

The first few Halloween items you updated (to use the new "Obtained From" section formatting) followed a slightly inconsistent format - any-outfit ones had "(Any outfit)", while ones with outfits were italicized, sometimes including "in the" at the beginning, and sometimes having a period at the end. I went over them and changed them to be consistent amongst themselves (non-italic, lowercase "any outfit", and no text other than the outfit name in parentheses), though I'm not sure what you intended the exact formatting to be - would you mind sharing it so said pages can be re-updated? --Quietust (t|c) 04:38, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to fix them up in a few minutes. I made a couple of mistakes, and I need to move the position of it over the When Used section.

A request

I'm having trouble adding anything to my skill chart on my userpage, I'm wondering if you could help me figure out what I'm doing wrong. I suspect there's been a change in the coding or something that makes my chart look bad when I try to add to it. --Sparksol (t|c) 01:34, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Actually, never mind. Seems the trouble was I was listing a link as "CC" in the visible text portion, and that was triggering whatever it was that was stopping me. Thanks anyway! --Sparksol (t|c) 07:34, 5 November 2008 (UTC)

Stat Days

Sorry, I'm on a laptop and I can barely see the difference in this typeface between normal text and the blue this site uses for links. I can't see it at all at certain angles, so I missed that the words "stat days" were printed in blue. I'll go read it. Thanks

I love your userinfo page and I would like to copy many elements of it. Is that OK? Thanks. --DVhttp://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/skins/monobook/user.gifhttp://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/skins/monobook/file_icon.gifhttp://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/skins/monobook/mail_icon.gifhttp://kol.coldfront.net/thekolwiki/skins/monobook/link_icon.gif 23:33, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Redirect renaming

Yeah, I actually wanted to delete the redirect with mixed case, and replace it with a redirect with all lower case, since the lower case one works better for searching. Unfortunately, "move" is not a traditional "move", but I didn't realize that. In any event, I tried to then delete the original page, but I can't find out where or how. If you have the power, it would be better to delete that original page. Also, not sure where to respond, so I did it here. --Fryguy9 20:10, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Beginner's Guide

Hey Toffile... so instead of "nuking all my "bad strategy", how bout you try writing up some actual 'good strategy' to help out new players. Obviously, you know what you are doing. From your point of view, my attempts at strategy are foolish. However, I think my lousy strategies are better than those of a first time player. Add a section at the bottom called Starting Strategies or something. Add spoiler notices. Then provide hints as to ways to jumpstart your character. How would YOU start a brand new character? --SinginSally 13:51, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Crimbo Carols

Thanks for the help with the Carols, I knew the page was sucky, so that was great. Who are you talking to with the Sauceror skill? I'm not having any luck finding someone with it. --Lizm3 17:30, 15 December 2009 (UTC)

Sorry (11s)

No, I didn't see the 11s message. To be fair there are an incredible number of things vying for one's attention at the point of editing/trying to help. Aurorya 08:12, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Marking Edits as Minor by Default

I don't do this, but if you wanted to for some reason, there is an option checkbox in the "Editing" section of Special:Preferences labeled "Mark all edits minor by default". --JRSiebz (|§|) 02:21, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

The Chefstaffs

  • Correct me if I'm mistaken. But the reason why I put that bit was because there's no way you can make elemental hi-meins in a BHY - since you need to USE a delectaBle catalyst to make the solution to make the sour sauce. So that cuts out at least half. Then the staff of soupbone has a b in it. Staff of teapot tempest can't be made because of guano, which means that cauldron and kettle also can't be made. NovemBer has a b in it, and blood + pudding has a B in it. That means that the only ones you can use are the ones I mentioned. I'm going to revert for now, is that fine? Argus 01:54, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
    • I've not tried to make a chefstaff during a bees hate you run, but I wouldn't expect you to be prohibited from having rodric from making you a staff with a B in the name. And you can equip things with a B in the name just fine. The other reasons are legit: you can't acquire hi meins (without pulls in softcore, but then you'd just pull the staff itself), you can't use the "use" link on items with 'b' in the name (with the few noted exceptions)... --Flargen 03:19, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
    • I know about the hi-meins. My objection was based around the Blood and Pudding staff, the Soupbone staff and November Staff. Just because they have B's in them, doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to make them. You can even equip them. You're making a horrible mess of the actual run constraints with the logic you put on the page.--Toffile 03:32, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
      • I figured as much. But my thought was that people put equipment there because it was unfavorable, such as the astral bracer, boss bat. Sure, every single one of those you could equip, but you'd still maintain damage just the same. I don't see the point of that section then, since it's all a preference of how much beginning damage you can take, and it's less of a physical restriction and more of a preferential/situational one. Re: Kolimage template

Sorry, I really have no idea what I'm doing here, just trying to dump a bunch of info. The text on the upload page didn't mention anything about any fields, so I didn't think to put any in. I'll make sure to do that in the future, thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by FractalP (talkcontribs) on 22:00, 3 June 2011

  • But it totally does mention that: "The Summary field should typically only be used for adding special image-related templates. Specifically:", and then mentions the particular templates. --Flargen 06:09, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
    • Okay, I see more what you mean. I figured people would click the links to the templates to see how they work. Perhaps I should not assume that. --Flargen 06:11, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Re: WotSF potions

If I remember right (and wiki can back me up) only the last gate will always require a DoD potion. Out of the 5 possible effects, only one of them can be acquired through the ring or monster attack. That being said, it's more likely that the oracle will be an expense (4/5 chance that you'll need a potion identified) as opposed to may (1/5 chance). That was why I added it; it's true that it's a maybe, but it's statistically almost a certainty.Argus 22:25, 9 September 2011 (CEST)

  • It's either "pull a ring of teleportitis" or pay the oracle. I was wrong in retrospect, apparently an Uppercase Q doesn't inflict teleportitis. I mean, I'm sure we could qualify it with "(But only in softcore if you have a ring of teleportitis in Hagnk's and none of the other possible effects show up)"...but I'm more of a fan of just keeping it simple. It's a subtle nuance that most people who have done some ascending know about anyway.--Toffile 02:49, 10 September 2011 (CEST)
    • The choice adventure will give you teleportitis. It would be fair to say that paying the Oracle is almost certainly required, but can be avoided rarely. I think I put the original line in the article about paying for the consultation, and it didn't seem worth mentioning. Just like I didn't add in that Travoltan Trousers are pretty useful in WotSF softcore. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 07:29, 10 September 2011 (CEST)

2 Mr A item edit

Your change message says "restricted list with an expiration of January 2013" but your edit says "will stay until January 2012". I'm guessing 2012 is correct, but I thought I'd give you the opportunity to fix it if that isn't right. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 00:00, 17 November 2011 (CET)

It's right. Items get marked untrendy a year after their last month of availability. If they expire in January 2013, they were last available in January 2012.--Toffile 03:10, 17 November 2011 (CET)

Gingerbread Homestead

Hi,

about these edits: the lump of Saccharine Maple sap isn’t a Halloween or Border candy, is it? Somebody on the talk page was certain that this adventure gave that, too. --Xyzzyn 20:33, 4 December 2011 (CET)

  • there's also that halloween adventures give stuff that's not candy. did anyone get a cog or some booze? looks like the link is just coincidence. this gives candies and so does halloween. that's it. --Evilkolbot 22:31, 4 December 2011 (CET)
  • To be honest it's more like anything in the Candy category that isn't generated by Mr. Store items (So no candy hearts or Stocking Mimic candies). The actual candy category is all manually tagged and is actually missing a ton of stuff.--Toffile 22:37, 4 December 2011 (CET)
  • I also really don't mind listing it out fully aside from the fact that the actual list is incredibly long and there is actually a noticeable rule.--Toffile 22:54, 4 December 2011 (CET)
    • As I see it, the options are:
      1. Have no category or list, let the user figure it out.
      2. Have a list of candy which is given by the GH.
      3. Have a list of candy which is not given by the GH, whether this is precisely the list of Mr Store-derived candy or something else.
      4. Categorise Mr Store-derived candy distinctly from plebeian candy and hope that this is what the GH does as well.
    • 1. is counter-productive, 2. is conceptually easiest but laborious to maintain and read, 3. would require a complete list of candy in the game, followed by the same work as 2. but with a (potentially) more readable result, 4. requires some optimism, and it seems not aesthetic to change the categorisation for the needs of a single adventure. (It does make a potential use case for an MW extension that’d allow category intersections, if such a thing was to be installed, but this is beyond the scope of the discussion.) As someone who’s more likely to consult this list than write it (I didn’t know what exactly Category:Candy was until yesterday), I’d hope for something like 3., under the current assumptions, but anything that easily provides the information should be fine. --Xyzzyn 23:26, 4 December 2011 (CET)

Complicating matter: From data in the forums, it seems pretty clear that not all candies are equally likely -- things like plexipips are possible, but don't drop nearly as often as more common candies. Probably there are 2-3 'tiers' of candy, and to be complete we'd want to mention what these actually are. --Starwed 00:00, 5 December 2011 (CET)

  • If the spading bears it out, sure. 100 samples seems a bit low though.--Toffile 00:12, 5 December 2011 (CET)
You don't need a large sample to notice this difference. --Starwed 06:11, 5 December 2011 (CET)

Future Content Spoilers

Why did you upload content that hasn't been released yet? I see no advantage to that, compared to waiting the extra few days and not spoiling it for people that check the wiki. I fully accept spoilers that are uploaded the moment the content is released, but don't you think doing it 1, 2, 3, and 4 days in advance is rude? --Erich 10:22, 21 December 2011 (CET)

  • As we all know the Tiny Plastic figurines are the most sacred content that no one should never see until they are all released. I'm so sorry that I uploaded those images.--Toffile 20:48, 21 December 2011 (CET)
I can't think of a single atrocity in history that approaches this scale. Crimbo is cancelled. --Fxer 20:58, 21 December 2011 (CET)
    • I want to thank the two of you for your contributions, and for showing me what this is all about. I was honestly confused at first, after reading one of Jick's rants (I've head rumours of him having others) about public spoilage (he really likes the term 'dick', heh), but after researching the Holocaust and knowing that any of those things that you guys do is totally meaningless when compared to it... it really put stuff in perspective. Thank you Toffile, and thank you Fxer. Though I believe you might be called different things in your daily life (I'm not too sure, I don't really know you personally), I want to thank you for correcting my thinking, and I hope you have a blessed Christmas.--Erich 08:36, 23 December 2011 (CET)
