Quest abilities

  • Winning combats with the Yule Hound equipped progresses you toward finding an elf in the current zone. Each zone has a separate elf counter, and the post-combat messages indicate how close the Hound is to finding an elf:
Cold
  • <name> acts like he's caught a faint whiff of elf on the breeze, but can't really place it.
  • <name> sniffs around and acts like maybe he smells something but doesn't seem real definite about it.
  • <name> sniffs around and maybe catches a trace of elf, but it's a real faint trace.
  • <name> sniffs around and picks up a trail, but it's so faint he doesn't seem real enthused about it.
  • <name> sniffs around and seems like maybe he found a trail, but he has to keep checking to make sure
Warm
  • <name> barks and leads you deeper into the area, hot on the trail.
  • <name> barks excitedly, and leads you forward.
  • <name> leads you forward with determination, definitely on the trail of an elf.
  • <name> picks up the pace -- you must be getting close to an elf!
  • <name> sniffs around excitedly -- there's definitely an elf nearby!
Hot
  • <name> barks and strains at the leash -- seems like you're nearly on top of an elf!
  • <name> barks excitedly and sniffs around like there's an elf right here somewhere!

After finding elf
  • <name> sniffs around a bit, then sits down and does one of those big dog yawns.
  • <name> sniffs around and then barks a bark that sounds like a bark version of "Nope."
  • <name> sniffs around excitedly, and finds a half a hot dog someone dropped. Other than that, nothing.
  • <name> sniffs around for a bit, then looks up at you and gives you the doggy version of a shrug.
  • <name> sniffs around for a while, but doesn't seem to pick up anything.
