Notes
- There exists a stuffed version of this familiar.
- Acts every round.
- Without a tuning fork, this familiar attacks the monster 66% of the time, and the player 33% of the time.
- With a tuning fork equipped, this familiar attacks the monster 80% of the time, and the player 20% of the time.
- It will succeed in its attack 10 * ceiling(X/6)% of the time, where X is the familiar's weight. This means between 1 and 6 pounds, it hits 10% of the time; from 13-18 it hits 30% of the time. Theoretically, a 55-pound Scary Death Orb will not miss.
- Regardless of opponent, a Scary Death Orb will do int(X/2)+2 to X+2 in damage, where X is the weight of the familiar.
- Damage to monsters is (spooky damage).
- Damage to players is physical.
References
- The familiar is an homage to the shiny, flying kill-bit-sporting death balls called Sentinel Spheres by fans of the Phantasm horror movie series from which they originate.
- The arena message given when entering the Scary Death Orb into Hide and Seek is likely a reference to one of Phantasm's protagonists, Reggie (played by Reggie Bannister), who works as an ice cream vendor.
- The Scary Death Orb could also be an homage to Rover, a balloon-like security sentinel from the 1967 British Sci-fi program The Prisoner. It chases and kills or pacifies individuals who attempt to leave "the Village" and is a primary antagonist for Number Six. It was parodied on The Simpsons at least two times.
- Additionally, The Scary Death Orb could be a reference to the IT-O Interrogator in the Star Wars movie Star Wars: A New Hope
- Due to the Tuning Fork familiar equipment, this is a reference to Phantasm, as the tuning fork is a key plot device in this movie.
