- A hand turkey is a drawing of a turkey made by tracing a hand, typically using the thumb to represent the turkey's head, and the fingers for feathers. It is common for American children 5-6 years old to draw these in school, usually around Thanksgiving.
- "Gobble Gobble Hey", from the first line in the description haiku, is a poultry-flavored rewording of the chorus from the Ramones song "Pinhead", which goes "Gabba Gabba Hey!" This may also be a reference to the 1933 movie, "Freaks", and the line "Gabba, gabba hey" features prominently at the climax of the movie.
- Doing "The Funky Turkey" around the maypole is a play on the Funky Chicken, a novelty dance from 1969.
