Combat Messages
- When blocking attacks:
- <name> tells it, "you musht be thish tall to attack this Adventurer." Turns out it isn't quite tall enough.
- It accidentally steps on <name>'s toe. The super-sticky cotton candy fuses it to the ground.
- <name> leers suggestively at it. It looks flattered, and doesn't attack you. Wow, talk about low standards.
- <name> shouts, "No horseplay on the carousel!" He grabs your opponent with his curiously small, strangely powerful hands, rendering it immobile.
- <name> hiccups and says, "Shorry, son. You have to trade in three shmall prizes to attack right now. Why don't you go knock over shome more milk bottles?" It 's too nonplussed to attack you.
- <name> hiccups and staggers in front of it. It try to attack you, but gets stuck in <name>'s cotton candy body.
- It gets all stuck in <name>'s cotton candy body. Thank goodness it's cotton candy and not tar, or we'd have to issue a public apology. Again.
- At end of combat:
- With HP/MP to restore:
- <name> pulls a piece of cotton candy off his chest and offers it to you. Maybe he just had something to get off his chest . . . anyway, the candy's pretty refreshing.
- <name> pulls a piece of cotton candy off his head and offers it to you. Mmm, candy dandruff! It's suspiciously refreshing.
- <name> pulls a piece of cotton candy off his leg and offers it to you. You're pretty sure this isn't candy everybody wants, but you eat it anyway. It's curiously refreshing.
- <name> pulls a piece of cotton candy off his arm and offers it to you. Against your better judgment, you eat it. It tastes a little like cabbage, a lot like sugar, and is surprisingly refreshing.
- <name> pulls a piece of cotton candy off his knee and offers it to you. Criminy, it's tasty.
You gain some hit points. You gain some Mana Points.
- If HP and MP are at least 90% full:
- <name> pulls a piece of cotton candy off of his . . . uh, very low lower back and offers it to you. "No thanks, I'm full," you say, pointing at your HP and MP counters. He nods, and suggests you save it for later, so you stick it in your inventory.
- <name> pulls a piece of cotton candy off of his . . . uh . . . upper thigh, and offers it to you. You don't want to offend him, so you stick it in your inventory.
- <name> pulls a piece of cotton candy off of his armpit and offers it to you. "Um, thanks -- I'll just save this for later," you say, and shove it in your inventory.
- At 4 pounds or less:
You acquire an item: cotton candy pinch - At 5-9 pounds:
You acquire an item: cotton candy smidgen - At 10-14 pounds:
You acquire an item: cotton candy skoshe - At 15-19 pounds:
You acquire an item: cotton candy plug - At 20-29 pounds:
You acquire an item: cotton candy cone - At 30-39 pounds:
You acquire an item: cotton candy pillow - At 40 pounds or more:
You acquire an item: cotton candy bale
- With HP/MP to restore:
- With lucky Tam O'Shanter equipped:
- <name> winks drunkenly underneath the Tam O'Shanter.
- With miniature gravy-covered maypole equipped:
- <name> dances around the maypole -- he's hot, hot, so hot, sticky sweet.
- With wax lips equipped:
- <name> smiles suggestively behind the wax lips.
Arena Messages
- When entered in an Ultimate Cage Match
- <name> doesn't have any claws or laser beams -- or any bones or muscles -- so he's not an effective fighter.
Notes
- The item dropped at the end of combat is dependent on the Carnie's weight.
- Drops candy up to 10 times a day
- When it was released, the haiku for this familiar was missing two syllables-- the second line read "sticky, sweet, small hands".
- When this familiar was first released, the placeholder text was shown when the familiar's actions happened. The placeholder text said "August familiar whelp message" and "August familiar potato message".
References
- "Hot, hot, so hot, sticky sweet" from the Maypole description is part of a verse from the Def Leppard song "Pour Some Sugar On Me".
- The lines regarding "small hands" refer to a throwaway joke from the first Austin Powers movie. Austin states that there are only two things in the world that scare him, and one of those things is nuclear war. When asked what the other is, he simply responds "Carnies. Circus folk. Small hands, smell like cabbage."
