References

  • A hand turkey is a drawing of a turkey made by tracing a hand, typically using the thumb to represent the turkey's head and the fingers for feathers. It is common for 5-6 year-old American children to draw these in school, usually around Thanksgiving.
  • "Gobble Gobble Hey", from the first line in the haiku description, is a poultry-flavored rewording of "Gabba Gabba Hey," a line from the 1933 movie "Freaks", which was reused in other works, such as the chorus from the Ramones song "Pinhead".
  • Doing "The Funky Turkey" around the maypole is a play on the Funky Chicken, a novelty dance from 1969.
  • The reference to hunt and peck in the haiku description refers to the method of untrained typing, where typists struggle to find each key (hunt) and then hit it with only one of their two index fingers (peck).
