You found this little girl hiding in the ruins of one of the Pork Elves' lunar colonies. She claims her name is Axel Ottal, and that when the meanies came she hid so they couldn't find her.
I know what you're thinking: if full-grown elves couldn't hide from the mutants and aliens, how'd this kid survive?

- X is equal to the darkness of Grimace.
Equipping this item will add an Axel Courage counter to the left-hand panel, which starts at 50 and decreases when you get hit. She will leave you when it reaches 0 and you'll have to find her again.
Equipping this item and adventuring in the Domed City of Ronaldus or the Domed City of Grimacia leads to messages appearing in battle:
When Hit
- Axel covers her eyes with her free hand. "Oh, that was awful! You're b-b-b-bleeding!" she says, sniffling
After Battle
- Axel says, "Hey, listen!" You listen for a little bit, nonplussed. "Yup, it's definitely this way! C'mon!"
- Axel climbs up a ruined staircase to look around, then comes back down. "We're headed the right way. I told you so! Come on!
- Axel tugs on your arm and says, "I hafta go potty." As you stammer, she grins and says, "just kidding. It's this way! This way! C'mon!"
- Axel examines the scorch marks in some nearby rubble. "Yup, the team is definitely over here somewhere. C'mon!"
- Axel sniffles and wipes her nose, then examines the ground closely. "A hobbit lay here," she says, then grins. "Just kidding. I know where we are! C'mon!"
- Axel tugs on your sleeve. "Wait, I remember! It was this way! Let's go this way! C'mon!"
After Battle, if she wasn't equipped?
- Without your hand to hold, Axel Ottal wanders off.
After battle, while not on Ronald or Grimace
- Axel Ottal complains, "We're not going to find anything around here."
If too much Damage is Taken?
- "I can't take it anymore! It's too horrible!" Axel screams, and lets go of your hand. Before you can move, she's run off to hide again. Dangit.

- The little girl's name refers to the axolotl, a species of mole salamander that remains in juvenile form throughout its adult life. Axolotls and newts are both types of salamander, making her name a reference to Newt, the little girl in the movie Aliens.
- "Hey, listen!" refers to the frequent exclamations of Link's fairy companion Navi in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
- "A hobbit lay here" refers to a scene in Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in which Aragorn tracks Merry and Pippin by examining the ground.
