Exact damage formula

Current damage formula is incorrect. Prooflink: _ttp://195.70.211.9/files/cannon_spading.PNG Expected min damage for this pasta spell = (1+1)*(8+floor(14*15%)+40) = 2*50=100; Damage dealt to goldfish = 90 as anyone can see on screenshot => cannon formula is inaccurate OR pasta bonus spell damage formula is inaccurate --NightBird 13:25, 23 February 2010 (UTC)

  • Ok, I've been looking at cannon, I have no idea why you're seeing weird numbers. My intuition is that mafia is messing up and not telling you something. I've just done a good amount of spading with Cannon at +21 absolute and +135%, and I am seeing exactly what we would expect from the formula on the page. --RoyalTonberry 06:37, 24 February 2010 (UTC)
    • I've answered you via kmail. Main points: all values are correct (+12 from destruction, + 10 from wormwood, +20 from rock band sticker => +42 -> +40 (cap), +50% from pool buff + 50% from sugar chapeau; 18 buffed myst => floor (18*15%) = 2), but my class was SA, not PM and total bonus damage was 42>40 => maybe for saucerors pasta spells works differently sometimes? And one more thing: I noticed lower damage twice and first 90 was when fighting bricko turtle (my myst was <6 at this time => floor(6*15%) = 0 => 2*48 = 96 expected min damage). My log of that day: _ttp://195.70.211.9/files/NightBird_20100223.txt
      • I can take another look later on, by putting my bonus damage over the cap. Your log doesn't record damage done to monsters, nor acquisition of effects, so that doesn't really help, in fact, it makes things more difficult. This is because your log claims to cast it (mafia might even think you do), but you may not actually acquire the effect. If you didn't actually have Jackasses' Symphony, for example, your damage is right where you'd expect it to be. I was also a Sauceror when doing my testing. I will look some more, but I'm pretty sure mafia just got confused on your end. --RoyalTonberry 18:59, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Well. I've ascended as TT and tried again with the same gear and buffs. Now you can see full logs (including damage in combats; results of casting spells, etc).
Screenshots & logs: _ttp://195.70.211.9/files/NightBird_20100228.txt (see turn [31]; rounds 2,3); _ttp://195.70.211.9/files/cannon_90dmg.png ; _ttp://195.70.211.9/files/cannon_90dmg_p2.png
+42 spell damage; +100% spell damage; 18 buffed myst; floor(18*15%)=2 => expected min damage= 2* (8+2+40) = 100
What would you say now? ;) --NightBird 13:35, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

  • Hmm. I wonder if the Sewer Monsters have 10% resistance to Spooky? That would also explain your numbers (expected damages of 90, 91, 93, 95, 97, 99, 100, 102, 104 [might be +1 on some of those due to rounding?] with your setup). Please also note that I am looking at the turn before (the bricko turtle), and the cannon damage versus it (with no meaningful change in equipment) matches with what we'd expect from the regular formula. I'll take a look! --RoyalTonberry 21:59, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
  • Okay, After a good deal of meticulous spadery on this spell, I have come to the conclusion that NightBird is correct, the formula is wrong. It looks very much so like the formula for Cannon should actually be (8 to 16 + 7*Myst/100) for its base damage. I arrived at this conclusion by looking at Cannon's damage with +43 spell damage (capped at +40). At 1 Myst, I saw a range of 48-56, which is perfectly fine with 8-16 + floor(7*Myst/100). Then, after more looking around, I adjusted Mysticality to 10, then 9, then 8, then 7, and all of those values saw a range of 49-57, meaning that the Myst component added one damage. When Myst adjusted to 6, I saw 48-56, meaning that Cannon is doing (8 to 16 + floor(7*Myst/100)) for its base damage. Good find NightBird! --RoyalTonberry 22:56, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
    • Wait, no, I'm silly. If it goes up at 7 Myst and not at 6, that means it is 15% of buffed myst. Too many numbers flying around. --RoyalTonberry 23:08, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
  • Even more looking at this. I put myself at exactly your setup, which is to say: 18 buffed Myst, +42 spell damage (one rock band sticker + spirit of wormwood + Jackasses' Symphony), +100% spell damage (chapeau and a-cue-ity), I am seeing 100, 102, 104, 106, 108, 110, 112, 116 for damages, exactly as expected, versus all sewer monsters. I have no idea what's up with the damages that you're seeing. Other than continued user error, the only thing I can think of to explain it would be if there's some negative impact for going over the spell cap as a non-Pastamancer. (The character doing this testing was a Pastamancer). I'll ask some friends for a character that has Cannon and isn't a pastamancer, and see if I can look at it. Otherwise, I can do it when I hit aftercore. --RoyalTonberry 23:35, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
    • After much fiddling with this spell, It looks like the damage cap is 35 bonus damage for non-PMs and 40 bonus damage for PMs. Fits perfectly with all observed things. --RoyalTonberry 01:19, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

I took the liberty of restarting the discussion of this skill, we need to spade for the new damage cap and gather a list of new combat stuff. --Urutsini 02:56, 13 April 2008 (CDT)

Name Change?

Before rollover on the 10th, the name of this skill was changed to 'Cannoli Cannon':

Cannoli Cannon

Type: Combat MP Cost: 7

This spell allows you to summon and then fire a cannon made of cannoli and stuffed with all manner of deadly substances.

Does anyone know when the change from "Cannoli" to "Cannelloni" occured? --ShiroSirius 20:50, 17 April 2008 (CDT)

How much damage does it do? on the pastamancer page it says it adds .15 * Myst Here it says about .03 * Myst--Wallawalla23 09:19, 21 August 2006 (CDT)

6 of one, not quite half a dozen of the other

I tried using eXtreme Ray of Something for 100 turns, and got all of the items shown, and no others.--Foggy 09:39, 22 August 2006 (CDT)

Extra text?

When I cast the ray, I got the message, "You call forth an eXtreme Ray of Paint Thinner, dealing 74 damage to your opponent. The Ray is almost too eXtreme to control, and stuff sort of goes everywhere." I cast it vs. the Blackberry Bush, with the following equipment: Hat: miner's helmet Shirt: clockwork trench coat Weapon: oversized pizza cutter Off-Hand: kickback cookbook Pants: swashbuckling pants Accessory 1: shiny ring Accessory 2: blackberry slippers Accessory 3: badass belt --Juansidious 19:32, 12 October 2007 (CDT)

If you would do a little bit of research, you would see that this is the message displayed when you exceed the damage cap on the eXtreme ray. The combination of the Kickback Cookbook, Pizza Cutter, and Blackberry Slippers would do it. All this means is that you aren't getting quite the damage you could out of this (and if you weren't a pastamancer, you would take backlash damage). --Wildfire393 20:19, 12 October 2007 (CDT)

Re: Extra text?

Is this the case? I haven't heard anything about attacks doing backlash damage, though then again there are some skills that are better suited for taking through an ascension than others (the attack specific skills of each class definitely not being part of this group). I did a bit of testing, doing runs in the Wine Cellar, and I found that my item drops seemingly increased for the wine bottles (on average, w/o a fairy and without boosting the ray to the point where the message is shown, I would obtain three bottles of wine for every two runs. Without a fairy and boosting the damage up to this point, I would get about five botles for every three runs). This would show consistancy with the other mage class of the game, a bonus of sorts for reaching the cap that is fitting to the class. Nonetheless, I think this needs to be investigated further, along with the other spells the Pastamancer that have caps (Weapon of the Pastalord doesn't have a cap, so it doesn't fit this category)--Arashmin 18:37, 26 October 2007 (CDT)

Multi-hits

Just fought the Irritating Series of Random Encounters:

You summon a massive cannelloni cannon and fire it at your opponents. It blasts two of them with bonfires, dealing 268 damage.

So, it hits two of 'em. -- sulfur 22:14, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Different flavor text

I've noticed some differences from the page text and actual flavor text, when using stench: "You summon a massive cannelloni cannon and fire it at your opponent. It blasts your opponent with bottled farts" "You summon a massive cannelloni cannon and fire it at your opponents. It blasts two of them with durian fruit" "You summon a massive cannelloni cannon and fire it at your opponent. It blasts your opponent with poos" "You summon a massive cannelloni cannon and fire it at your opponent. It blasts your opponent with spoiled milk curds" "You summon a massive cannelloni cannon and fire it at your opponent. It blasts your opponent with rotting fruit" "You summon a massive cannelloni cannon and fire it at your opponent. It blasts your opponent with pieces of moldy cheese" "You summon a massive cannelloni cannon and fire it at your opponent. It blasts your opponent with skunk butts" "You summon a massive cannelloni cannon and fire it at your opponent. It blasts your opponent with slices of Limburger cheese" "You summon a massive cannelloni cannon and fire it at your opponent. It blasts your opponent with rotten eggs" "You summon a massive cannelloni cannon and fire it at your opponent. It blasts your opponent with maggots" This seems to be the recent list of what it fires for stench. --Rick Tyger (talk) 00:41, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
