Talk:Dandy Lion
References
Pretty sure it's based off the Cowardly Lion for one, and since March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb, that's the month relationship. Anyone got anything else?--Toffile 22:59, 28 February 2007 (CST)
- I think that the arena message about the cage match is from something, but I forget what... --Fearful Ferret 23:32, 28 February 2007 (CST)
- It's most likely a reference to "He's a lover, not a fighter" --Kiltan 23:50, 28 February 2007 (CST)
- Um, the tam message is currently for the Shatner tam... I'm gonna take those elipsissesies out.--Joel 00:01, 1 March 2007 (CST)
- The lion seems based more from "Cat" of Red Dwarf than the Cowardly Lion of Oz - anyone spot obvious Red Dwarf references besides the general description? --Grimdel 16:00, 01 March 2007 (PDT)
- Nah, no obvious references that I can see, but I'll agree that it's definitely an influence. Also, can the "needs content" marker come off yet?--Joel 18:41, 1 March 2007 (CST)
- In terms of references, but not spading for the Ghuol Whelp properties. It looks like somebody has already updated it. --TheDotGamer 19:28, 1 March 2007 (CST)
- One could also argue that this guy was based off Snagglepuss from those old cartoons with his well-dressedness and etc. Did he have a lisp?--Azp2k32 04:49, 11 March 2007 (CDT)
- I suppose one could argue that, but considering that Mr. Skullhead said on the radio that it's based on The Wizard of Oz, I'd think that this doesn't require further discussion. It's not Red Dwarf, not Cats Don't Dance, and not Snagglepuss either. --Andemon 03:37, 13 March 2007 (CDT)
Spading
Does it restore hp/mp at every end of combat? --Tripwood 23:24, 28 February 2007 (CST)
- No, but given I only spent 2 turns with it, I can't give much info beyond that. 1st combat, I got nothing. 2nd combat, with him at 11 lbs., I got 12 MP only, no HP restore. But it's worth noting my HP was already full at the time; maybe the HP restore only happens if you're actually missing HP? (Given the message about it seeing you're bleeding, this seems possible anyway.)--Salien 02:15, 1 March 2007 (CST)
- Every time it acted and I was missing both HP and MP, it restored both. --H-Bar 09:58, 1 March 2007 (CST)
- This was tested over how many combats? If it does heal you up in every fight, it would be even more powerful then a regular whelp, who only acts about 50% of the time. --Tripwood 23:10, 1 March 2007 (CST)
- Given that H-Bar said 'every time it acted' and not 'every combat', and the fact that I had one combat where I was short MP and it did not restore, I think it's safe to say the activation rate is less than 100%. Probably 50%, just because the ghuol is, but this obviously requires further testing.--Salien 02:56, 2 March 2007 (CST)
- Nevermind, Riff just stated it acts exactly the same as a ghuol whelp for restoring, activation and all; it just doesn't show restore messages for stuff you're already full of.--Salien 03:06, 2 March 2007 (CST)
- This was tested over how many combats? If it does heal you up in every fight, it would be even more powerful then a regular whelp, who only acts about 50% of the time. --Tripwood 23:10, 1 March 2007 (CST)
Is there any reason to believe it boosts item drops any differently than a gravy fairy?--Joel 00:14, 2 March 2007 (CST)
- In the radio show it was stated that this was a straight-up combo familiar. So it's the same as a fairy. --Tripwood 18:02, 3 March 2007 (CST)
Wondering About Notes
Most of the Mr. Store's Hybrid familiars notes in the Wiki, if not all, do not tell that it 2.5% item drops, 5% meat drops, etc. So why do we mention that it gives 2.5% more item drops, (and restores HP and MP...) and we don't mention that in, say, Jitterbug? --Desertmagic 17:22, 2 March 2007 (CST)
The Jitterbug is expressly a combination of two full strength familiars. It was unclear whether the Dandy Lion was until Riff confirmed that it was. - JohnDoe244 18:07, 2 March 2007 (CST)
Line in description
This is the first familiar in the Mr. Store to add something seemingly unrelated to its description there. Does "Snappy dresser" mean anything? Maybe a trip to the ballroom or bedroom? - --Baggins 02:32, 3 March 2007 (CST)
- Meh, not really. The wizard hat had the whole Eroticism thing going on. I think it's because it's a dandy lion, and dandy means dresses snappily. --Worddoc 13:36, 3 March 2007 (CST)
- I would say it's also a bad pun, in the same way as the alligator (or other wild animal) sandwich is ordered and requested to "make it snappy". Something with big sharp 'orrible teeth is going to dress snappily. And possibly maulily, mutilatily and rendily. Slavedriver 18:10, 3 March 2007 (CST)
- I think the whip might be what 'snappy dresser' is about. yes, no? --Unnatural20 21:31, 10 March 2007 (CST)
Equipment Effects
- Anyone want to check if a safarrri hat makes the lion do anything interesting?--DirkDiggler 03:29, 4 March 2007 (CST)
- I equipped while having the lion as active familiar and the message is unchanged. But when you adventure with it:
"It all ends with Snarf fisting Lion-o cowers in fear, peeking occasionally at your hat. You tell him to be a lion, not a mowouse, but he doesn't listen." Orbrisa 16:05, 8 March 2007 (CST)
- "a lion, not a mowouse" is another reference to the Cowardly Lion's song--Olaf 16:44, 8 March 2007 (CST)
- What about a Cat-Herding Prod, the one held by Cassandra7?--Jewel12345 12:12, 14 March 2007 (CST)
- 100 adventure test run yielded no effect with Cat-Herding Prod -- negative outcome added to page. --Cassandra 18:19, 21 April 2007 (CDT) (aka Cassandra7)
- Apparently the cool whip does something pretty awesome -- I lack the familiar so I can't edit in the behaviour. Maybe you can! If you do, perhaps you could also check the hippo and other whips, and figure out if it's only when you attack or if it's anytime during battle. Thanks, you! --DirkDiggler 21:40, 8 March 2007 (CST)
- I get this when he's at 18 lbs:
- Like the majority of whipholders, you crack your whip. Bert Lahr is startled by the noise and goes feral, clawing your opponent for 19 damage. All fear the kitten with a whip!--Olaf 22:04, 8 March 2007 (CST)
- I just tried a gnauga hide whip, and it also triggers the lion-whip attack. --Emtu 13:29, 10 March 2007 (CST)
- It looks to me like the damage done is equal to the familiar weight. He did 24 damage at 24 lbs. And somebody on the forums claims any whip will work.--Olaf 23:30, 8 March 2007 (CST)
- Makes sense. Someone brought up the whip and safarri hat on Monday's show, and Skully said he was working on adding them to the game.--Toffile 08:40, 9 March 2007 (CST)
- I tested further today, and from what I got out of 140 combat rounds, the lion (actually was using a chameleon for this) attacked 66 times, which is about 47%. Various weights were in this test, and it was for a while above 50%, so my personal conclusion is that the attack rate is 50%, but furter testing should be done. As for the damage amount, all attacks fit into the lime's damage formula, but further testing will help. Weilding 2 whips did not seem to affect either damage amounts or attack percentages and if you only wield a whip in your off-hand, the lion will not attack. All of this was done with a penguin whip, so it can be added to a confirmed list, along with the cool whip I used yesterday.--Olaf 13:54, 9 March 2007 (CST)
- Over the course of 21 attacks from a 30 pound Lion with a gnauga hide whip, the highest damage was 32, the lowest was 17, and the average was 24. I didn't keep track of how often it attacked, but it took 31 adventures in the Airship to accumulate those 21 attacks. --Emtu 13:43, 10 March 2007 (CST)
- Attack sounds like a Lime. Question: Does it retain the Ghuol Whelp + Gravy Fairy effects when you have a whip equipped? i.e. does the whip actually make it a triple combo: Whelp+Fairy+Lime? Or is it Lime only, Fairy+Lime, or Whelp+Lime? --Harry Crimboween 23:35, 11 March 2007 (CDT)
- Yes, it retains its normal functions. You are correct in saying it would be a triple combo, but the attack rate seems to not be the same as the lime. I could be wrong on that point, though.--Olaf 00:47, 12 March 2007 (CDT)
- Does anything different happen if you are wearing a safarrri hat and wielding a whip? If not which one is dominant?--Xeno The Morph 11:55, 2 April 2007 (CDT)
Empty effect roll?
I just got the Jingle Jangle Jingle message for my Lion, without a whip equipped or anything, and obviously, nothing else happened. Could this perhaps mean that even if you don't have a whip equipped to get Lime functionality, it still rolls for that every round, to see if it would attack? Not sure if it's worth making much of a note of, but... KennyMan666 13:36, 11 June 2011 (UTC)
