Talk:Gnomitronic Hyperspatial Demodulizer
This item gives the supercharged effect only if it does the finishing blow on a monster and only if the monster is high enough level. At the sleazy back alley, it didn't work against the spiders, but at the valley, I killed a XXX pr0n with it and got the effect. Finally, it is usable once a combat, so you cannot use it repetadly to kill a monster that way --CheezyBob 19:54, 10 October 2007 (CDT)
It looks like a hairdryer. Any references in that? Cal010 21:39, 10 October 2007 (CDT)
Effect Gained Based Off Monster Level?
It seems as if the effect gotten is based off Monster Level. I finished off a Sabre-Toothed Ferret in the Bombed Out Hippy camp with the device on a multi (+5 ML) and got an effect named "Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged. These were the stat gains from the Effect I gotten, with no equipment or buffs:
Muscle: 193 (167)
Mysticality: 128 (111)
Moxie: 133 (115)
--Evil Taco 21:48, 10 October 2007 (CDT)
That looks like +15% to all stats.--Lostcalpolydude 22:03, 10 October 2007 (CDT)
I also received "Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged" With the following description:
- 'Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged
- You've been charged full of so many quantums that your hair is standing on end. It's like you touched one of those Lee Van Cleef generators.'
The effect icon appears to be the same.
--Lasthop 00:18, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
There also exists "Super-Mega-Charged". While I had this I used the demodulizer to gain "Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged", which boosted my stats above and beyond "Super-Mega-Charged". I was not able to achieve a quaternary level of stat boosts beyond "Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged" -- the thing stopped working. However, this may not represent the true limit. Since Froodian couldn't get it to work beyond "Super-Charged", I'm guessing that each additional layer of effect has a reduced chance of being acquired. Of course, this is pure conjecture on my part. --Toefungus 01:35, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
Someone needs to try funkslinging this and an antique mirror against the guy made of bees.--Jef 22:16, 10 October 2007 (CDT)
- I'm guessing the mirror would be giving the finishing blow, so nothing cool would happen.--Lostcalpolydude 22:23, 10 October 2007 (CDT)
No, just as familiars can do things after a battle is won, with funkslinging you could probably have it so the mirror finishes him and the demodulizer is still activated, making it think it did something, immediately followed by the guy made of bees' death, which should convince the item that it landed the finishing blow. Theoretically. Jick might have already guarded against that, though. --HikaruYami 23:34, 10 October 2007 (CDT)
- Just had a familiar kill the monster in the same turn i was using the gizmo. It does not activate, so the killing blow must come from the weapon proper.--Worthstream 05:17, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
- In my experience, even if the monster would have been killed by your use of the Demodulizer, if your familiar lands a blow after you then you will not gain an effect.--JungleSlug 12:15, 22 October 2007 (CDT)
- I just funkslung this while killing a tower monster. Got Super-Mega-Ultra-Hyper-Charged. --Prestige 07:20, 12 October 2007 (CDT)
There's some problems with the wiki's phrasing. I got Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged on final blow without getting the earlier effects. But I had used it earlier 3 times but they were not the finishing blows.--Sentinelzm 04:22, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
At level 11, I got "Super-Mega-Charged" from a Palindome monster and "Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged" from a pyramid monster. A Whitey's Grove monster gave nothing. Looks like it's monster level based, but maybe it also scales with your level in relation to that of the monster? Also, getting more turns of "Super-Mega-Charged" while already having the same buff simply added 5 more turns to my total. It did not change the buff into "Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged" as the article currently states. BTW, Super-Mega looks like 10% to all stats and Super-Mega-Ultra 15% --Prestige 05:23, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
I became "Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged" by killing a zombie duck without having any of the lesser effects....And I just became "Super-Mega-Ultra-Hyper-Charged" by using it on a caveman frat pledge, again without any other effects present. --Naia 09:18, 11 October 2007 (EDT)
The effect "Super-Mega-Ultra-Hyper-Charged" definitely increases one's character's strength ...by about 19% by my calculation. --Naia 08:38, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
Wow, nifty observations everyone! To address Prestige's point about buff extension rather than buff stacking, I was fighting in the Hole in the Sky and at one point had acquired "Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged" before my "Super-Mega-Charged" expired, and concurrently possessed both effects... that's why I assumed that the lesser effect was a prerequisite for the greater effect. From this discussion, however, it sounds like it scales to adventurer or monster level. --Toefungus 11:53, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
Also it definitely was not letting me use the device while I had the Super-Mega-Ultra effect on. I consistently got the "out of power" message. I assume it keeps you from further buffing while you have that level of buff or higher. --Prestige 16:15, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
We need to get some numbers up as to what ML each effect from the GHD (Gnomitronic Hyperspatial Demodulizer) would become available. The Cleesh monsters seem like a good place to start as they only need to be hit with the GHD. The effects could be achieved and measured by killing them with incremental increases in ML. Anyone know the base ML of the cleesh critters? I'm guessing 0 or 1, but I really don't know.--Xclockwatcher 07:06, 13 October 2007 (CDT)
OK, What I've found:
- Effects stack(possibly only in ascending order)
- A cleeshed(Frog) Fallen Archfiend(50ML)+65 ML repeatedly returned a 'Super-Mega-Charged' effect
- A cleeshed(Frog) Mahogany nightstand(162ML)+65 ML repeatedly returned a 'Super-Mega-Ultra-Hyper-Charged' effect
My guess is that the Cleeshed monsters retain the original's ML or it scales by area difficulty. This is just my theory.--Xclockwatcher 07:35, 13 October 2007 (CDT)
Multi-use?
I'm guessing it is a reusable combat item. Probably should mention that. --Devion 07:00, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
Okay, this may sound like a lamz0r n00b suggestion, but for purposes of ease of spading, I'd say that a detective skull would make estimating when you can get a kill much easier, as it would tell you when you're in range, and you can always use seal tooth/spices if you're only a few hp away from the damage range. Just sayin'. --Jimfromtx 14:09, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
The multi use message is "You try to fire the Gnomitronic gizmo, but nothing happens. Looks like its magneto-capacitrons need to recharge, or... something." Just FYI. --Kikas 14:55, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
Against NS 1st form?
I'm not going to be able to try this for a few days, so maybe someone can beat me to it. Anyway, what about using the GHD against the 1st form of the NS? *IF* it works (it's a big if), I'm sure it would give Super-Mega-Ultra-Hyper-Charged, and it would carry over to the 2nd form. --EEpiccolo 14:44, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
- It's worth a shot, but it's also a pretty big risk, seeing as one of the only other multi-use combat items (the spectre scepter) can be destroyed when she blocks it.--Wildfire393 18:11, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
- There are actually a few more multi-use combat items, like the toy mercenary, the toy soldier, seal tooth, spices, tree-eating kite, and some more that I probably just can't think up of. They can all be destroyed by either the NS or the Bonerdagon. --CG1:t,c,e 18:47, 11 October 2007 (CDT)
Bosses
It does not seem to work against bosses as the final blow for bosses. May need more testing, but it does not work as a final blow on any of Ed's 7 forms.
ML/Effect Level
My initial estimates:
- ML 0-49: Nothing.
- ML 50-99: Super-Charged
- ML 100-149: Super-Mega-Charged
- ML 150-199: Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged
- ML 200+: Super-Mega-Ultra-Hyper-Charged
I'll add more data to tighten it up, but this looks to be about right. --TechSmurf 22:27, 15 October 2007 (CDT)
Added more data. Seems the ranges are different than what I expected. --TechSmurf 01:54, 16 October 2007 (CDT)
I checked if you could use it on your shadow with the final healing item (double fisted funk slinging used) and I got this message: You approach your shadow and attempt to use the Gnomitronic Hyperspatial Demodulizer, but it knocks it out of your hands. Standard for trying to use items on your shadow, but hopefully worth noting.--Kosher le pesach 16:05, 17 October 2007 (CDT)
Grammar Comment
Is SpiffyHamster's grammar comment really necessary? A quick look at Super-Mega-Charged indicates that, yes, the writers know what the plural of "quantum" is.--Ailuro Dragon 20:42, 28 December 2007 (CST)
HP Based?
The War Hippy Elder Shaman (120 HP, 210 ML) only gives Super-Mega-Charged, but pretty much everything else on The Battlefield (Frat Warrior Fatigues) gives Super-Mega-Ultra-Hyper-Charged. Perhaps it is based on monster HP and not ML?
Flipping through the above table by Techsmurf, pretty much everything has the same HP and ML, that might not help. Although, it does explain some exceptions. For example, the Alphabet Giant has 150 HP, so that would place him in the Super-Mega-Ultra-Charged category (as spaded) even though his 145 ML puts him in the Super-Mega-Charged category. --Deus Ex Machina 01:41, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Item loss (NS / shadow / bonerdagon)
I assume this sentence is no longer true since the February 15, 2012 update: "This item is not consumed upon being used, unlike most combat items. However, if blocked by the Naughty Sorceress, your Shadow Class, or the Bonerdagon, it will still be lost." But I can't actually test that at the moment, could anyone do it? --Franz1 20:34, 15 April 2012 (CEST)
