Man, nobody paid attention to my hermit request. Had to do it myself with data from my own ascentions. Guess the Haiku Challenge is just too dull for people.
--Club 11:56, 3 Oct 2005 (MDT)
The Haiku Dungeon revamp that came out today just about changes the whole dungeon. I'm not too good at making Wiki pages, but I can adventure for the information. The dungeon now has monsters instead. The entire adventure is in haikus (attack, meat drop, familiar activity, stat gains). There appear to be some new items as well. I have a hefty list of what I've found saved. --Firiona 20:54, 29 August 2008 (CDT)
I moved the Haiku Challenge adventures from Non-combat Adventures to Retired Adventures, because these tasks are no longer available by adventuring here, but by using a haiku challenge map. This does not consume adventures. --Leeta 18:03, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
Page Organization
The obsolete adventures should either be below the notes or moved to their own page, now. Doesn't make much sense to have to go past the entire obsolete adventure list to see how this area works. Opinions? --[TechSmurf][T][C] 22:49, 29 August 2008 (CDT)
- We'll see how big it gets ;). But seriously, there are haiku for like everything, pickpocket, criticals, multiple different ones for item drops, prob even naval ring zooming!, so a separate page like "The Haiku Dungeon Haiku" or something of a giant chart with their equivalents may be necessary. --JRSiebz (☎|§|‡) 23:39, 29 August 2008 (CDT)
- And people should use existing monster page templates as they are now, such as monster description, item/meat drops etc. That way, eventually a haiku variable (like "haiku=y" or form="haiku" (just in case in the future comes limerick too - heh!)) may be added to those templates to generate in haiku instead of standard form, and randomize choose of haiku if they are multiple ones, such as for item drops. --JRSiebz (☎|§|‡) 23:44, 29 August 2008 (CDT)
- Also different meat drop haiku seem to be selected based on the number of syllables in the amount of meat dropped, prob for items and their names too. Examples: 45 -> 3, 37 -> 4. --JRSiebz (☎|§|‡) 00:02, 30 August 2008 (CDT)
- I think the familiar, hit, critical, meat gain, stat gain, ect. messages are the same in every adventure. How could you put that in? --Hippie Smoke
Haikus.

First time use has a second message: I don't hear so well. / Did your foe ask for more pain? / I'll assume they did.
Health gain: Your wounds fly away / on a refreshing spring breeze. / You gain 8 hit points. --Tamergrue 01:09, 30 August 2008 (CDT)
There are no navel ring messages. There is no message when you quickly fly away, nor when you zoom out of the way. I have not seen any unique navel ring post-combat messages either. They STILL happen, but you simply don't see them. --Jonzay 09:00, 30 August 2008 (CDT)
Popper:
- Your burps taste like pride, / 'cause that's what you just swallowed, / as you ran away.--Hippie Smoke
- I removed the messages that I added to Haiku Dungeon combat for better organization. The old version of this page is here. By the way, weapon attack messages seem generic --Raijinili 12:55, 30 August 2008 (CDT)
- Bleh, I saved as a minor edit. Sorry, it happened when I had to verify that I

DB problem?
Database error A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was: (SQL query hidden) from within function "Parser::replaceLinkHolders". MySQL returned error "1271: Illegal mix of collations for operation ' IN ' (mysql.coldfront.net)".
I get that error when I try to look at any of the changes from the last day or so, and also when I try to look at the current page. Anyone know what happened?
Thanks. Prefect 07:40, 30 August 2008 (CDT)
- I have this error,
- It's kind of annoying as
- you can't view the page.
- Seriously though, it's a problem. --Jonzay 09:00, 30 August 2008 (CDT)

Monsters
From near the shadows slinks this amateur ninja. A half-assassin.
A slacker in black, he dropped out of ninja school. He's deadly... sort of.`
Blur of teeth and claws. Who just caught the scent of blood? Ferocious bugbear.
A fiendish bugbear lurches at you, brandishing big teeth and small arms.
This room is the home of an ancient insane monk, and you're trespassing.
Venerable monk, as old as he is insane and, like, twice as mean.
This 10 by 10 room is exactly the right size: gelatinous cube.
A huge gleaming cube the length and height of the hall squishes toward you.

Encounter Rates
Encounter Name | Times encountered | Overall Percentage | Combat only percentage |
---|---|---|---|
studious monk | 48 | 11.16% | 12.21% |
venerable monk | 44 | 10.32% | 11.20% |
ferocious bugbear | 69 | 16.05% | 17.56% |
gelatinous cube | 71 | 16.51% | 18.07% |
amateur ninja | 79 | 18.37% | 20.10% |
Knob Goblin poseur | 82 | 19.07% | 20.87% |
Gravy Fairy Ring | 37 | 8.60% | N/A |
Better numbers now. Not as good as they could have been; haven't had enough time lately to spade every day. Combat-only rates are accurate to within about 4%. So the rates look to be about what we'd expect from a zone with 5 equally likely combats, where here the monks are actually a single monster with different descriptions (a la hobos). Noncombat rate is accurate to within 2.7%. --Flargen 19:15, 1 September 2008 (CDT)
- Several months later, now that all my characters have olfaction, I can confirm that the monks are the same. When olfacting one of the monks you see far too large a number of the "other" monk. I've moved and renamed things accordingly. --Flargen 21:28, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

For the Gravy Fairy Ring, I think it's fairly obvious that I selected the fairy gravy boat 7 times, and to get mushrooms the remaining 73 times. I didn't skip the adventure ever. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bumcheekcity (talk • contribs)
For the gelatinous cube, you can only ever have one of each drop in inventory, display case etc. at any time - malling it allows another drop. Haiku challenge map is also one-time. Anecdotally, I was getting far more biwas when they were expensive than your drop data would indicate I should have been, but that could just be RNG.--Ryo_Sangnoir 17:35, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
Added another 245 adventures worth to the above. Biwas still seem rare, to say the least. I'll add another section below so people can add the number of fights they had to have before the Haiku Challenge Map. Can drops be superlikelies, as it were? bumcheekcity 22:03, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
I just added another few adventures. I'll consider the results of this spading to be worth something at least and edit the pages for the individual monsters to reflect my results. bumcheekcity 20:40, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Actually, apparently we like 1000 fights with each monster before percentages are written down. That's fine with me. I'll wait until then. bumcheekcity 20:44, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
- What was the item and meat drop bonus you were running for all of this? Was there a fairy/leprechaun under the wallaby sign involved? --Flargen 21:29, 1 May 2009 (UTC)

Non-haiku. glitch?
As i was adventuring in the haiku dungeon I encountered a menacing thug from the nemesis quest. The standard text from the thug appeared instead of it being a haiku, but my combat messages were in proper haiku form. I've reported it as a bug already but im also posting here in case someone thinks its important enough to add to the page. --Qbr12 14:20, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
Never mind, got a response from a dev. Working as intended. --Qbr12 23:28, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
