Some combat actions in the game can change the current monster encounter into a different one, without leaving the combat. This has the following effects:
- The new monster is not affected by bonus Monster Level; its stats are normal (if it is not a scaling monster), and it will not have extra abilities from exceeding certain thresholds of +ML.
- The new monster shares the 30-round limit for combat with the previous monster(s).
- Once-per-combat actions are usable once again.
- Monster Modifiers, if any, are rerolled.
Most of these actions cannot be used against special monsters, with some exceptions.
