Some combat actions in the game can change the current monster encounter into a different one, without leaving the combat. This has the following effects:
- The new monster shares the 30-round limit for combat with the previous monster(s).
- Once-per-combat actions are usable once again.
- Monster Modifiers, if any, are rerolled.
- Special effects that only occur on the initialization of combat, such as the Pygmy shaman's curse debuff, do not occur for the new monster.
Most of these actions cannot be used against special monsters, with some exceptions.

History
- Prior to April 1, 2021, the new monster was not affected by bonus Monster Level. Its stats were normal (if it was not a scaling monster), and it would not have extra abilities from exceeding certain thresholds of +ML.
