Overconsumption

Specials prices

All specials seem to cost three times the autosell value of the food. All, except this one:

carob chunk cookies: 121 Meat

But carob chunk cookies autosell for 52 Meat, so they should cost 156 Meat at Chez Snootée. Is this a typo here, or do they really cost 121 Meat? It's strange - 121 isn't even divisible by 3. --Pcentella 20:27, 13 Jul 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

What can or cannot be the daily special

We've already seen painful penne pasta for sale, but with today's sale of ghuol guolash it appears to me that any food can be sold as the daily special - even those that normally require class-specific skills or that earn a trophy.

Judging by the appearance of especially salty dogs and N. O. Beer at the microbrewery, I suspect it's only a matter of time before pickles appear here. Too bad the DB and TPS drinks don't appear at the microbrewery.

Only time (or Riff) will tell - so I'll keep an eye out! We don't want to miss herb brownies or spectral pickles the way we missed the frozen mushrooms for sale yesterday, do we? --Temporary Man —The preceding signed but undated comment was added at 15:51, 21 July 2005 (CST).

Daily Specials Notes

• I've tallied up some totals: there are currently 209 "regular" Food items, 103 of which are available as specials, 31 of which are linked here on the item pages. Looking at The Gnomish Micromicrobrewery for the sake of comparision, there are currently 137 "regular" Booze items, 59 of which are available as specials, only 1 of which is linked to the Micromicrobrewery on the item pages. Almost half of the Food/Booze items are available in the NPC stores. Of these, only 20% have been backlinked to the NPC stores. This tells me that it's pretty meaningless as to whether or not an item can be a special: the chances of finding any particular item at the NPC store is pretty small. This conclusion is supported by the low percentage of specials that are linked: people just don't care. Gloomy Black Mushroom?

April 24th. I read there were Gloomy Black Mushrooms that you couldn't eat, but all I saw there was Toast.Raijinili 13:48, 24 April 2006 (CDT)

• I saw the system message when they changed it from Gloomy Black Mushrooms to Toast. I didn't think to cut and paste, but it said something about Chez Snootee being struck by lightning and it changing all the gloomy black mushrooms to toast. They caught it fairly quickly, the message was not too long after rollover.--RyokoYahagi 15:04, 24 April 2006 (CDT)
  • I Believe that it has somethign to do with the way that Chez Snootee is coded. In order for food items to not randomly appear in the shop they must be individually listed in an exclusion list. Restricted from the Daily Special

Raijinili's comment and those of others got me curious about what exactly is restricted from appearing. I thought that I remembered hearing on one of the radio shows that there was some formula... does anybody remember this? I know it's been mentioned on radio shows that The Gift Shop food will never appear. I got bored so I decided to put some numbers and thoughts together:

• There are currently 222 known foods (221 in Category:Food + Tofausage chow mein) and 8 beverages for a total of 230.
• Obviously there's no point in including "unimplemented" or "deimplemented" items (Childrens' Meal of the Damned, stunt nuts, superolive, Tof0n chow mein, Tofausage chow mein, Tofat appendix chow mein, Tofat wing chow mein, and Tofofu chow mein), so that brings us down to 222.
• 107 foods are listed on this page, meaning there are 222-107 = 115 foods that haven't appeared. (Although it's possible some haven't been recorded on this page).
• There are 12 Gift Shop foods (angel-food cake, babycakes, blue velvet cake, birthday party jellybean cheesecake, congratulatory cake, devil's-food cake, Happy Birthday, Claude! cake, mugcake, personalized birthday cake, three-tiered wedding cake, urinal cake, and Valentine's Day cake), bringing the total down to 103.
• I would say it's safe to assume that normal restaurant items at Chez, The Crimbo Cafe, Crimborg Nutrition Station, The Crimboween Spooky Cafe, or the Eating Cave are restricted, bringing to total down another 12 (Au Jus Gezund Heit, Bouillabaise Coucher Avec Moi, bowl of unidentifiable goo, candy cane pizza, gingerbread massacre, gingerbread stir-fry, gumdrop chow mein, It Came From Beyond Dessert, Peche a la Frog, shoots and leaves, twigs and gravel, and vampire cake) to 91.
• Quest items are also likely restricted (bowl of oriole's nest soup, flask of peppermint oil, plate of franks and beans, and spooky frank) bringing the total down to 87.
• Bless the Noblesse Oblige calendar search, the following weren't listed on this page but actually did occur since they started keeping track: ancient frozen dinner, ancient unspeakable fruitcake, bowl of cottage cheese, brains casserole, cranberries, crazy little Turkish delight, fortune cookie, Knoll mushroom, and tofu taco, lowering the total to 78.
• Likely, all KoL holiday content is restricted (see note below). This would restrict the bat-shaped Crimboween cookie, bell-shaped Crimbo cookie, candied yams, candy cane, candy stake, can-shaped gelatinous cranberry sauce, gingerbread bugbear, gingerbread horror, herbal stuffing, skull-shaped Crimboween cookie, tofurkey gravy, tofurkey leg, tombstone-shaped Crimboween cookie, tree-shaped Crimbo cookie, and wreath-shaped Crimbo cookie from appearing, lowering the total to 63.
• Untradable items are also likely (and some knowingly) restricted: gloomy black mushroom, grue egg omelette, and oily golden mushroom, bringing the total to 60.
• "High value or unique methods of obtaining" food such as Retenez L'Herbe Paté, radio button candy, and wedge of gray cheese haven't showed up, bringing the total to 57.
• It's been established that 19 meins and reagent pasta (asparagus lo mein, bat wing chow mein, cold hi mein, fettucini Inconnu, gnocchetti di Nietzsche, hell ramen, hot hi mein, Knob lo mein, Knob sausage chow mein, Knoll lo mein, olive lo mein, pr0n chow mein, rat appendix chow mein, sleazy hi mein, spaghetti with Skullheads, spooky hi mein, spooky lo mein, stinky hi mein, and tofu chow mein) don't show, lowering the total to 38.
• The remaining 38 food/drinks follow: ballroom blintz, bat wing kabob, bat wing stir-fry, Boris's key lime pie, bowl of lucky charms, carob chunk noodles, catgut taco, cherry pie, chorizo brownies, dehydrated caviar, delicious spicy noodles, desiccated apricot, dwarf bread, Ent cider, glass of goat's milk, hippy herbal tea, insanely spicy bean burrito, insanely spicy enchanted bean burrito, insanely spicy jumping bean burrito, Jarlsberg's key lime pie, Jumbo Dr. Lucifer, Knob sausage stir-fry, lemon meringue pie, Lucky Surprise Egg, Manetwich, maple syrup, pr0n stir-fry, pr0n taco, rat appendix stir-fry, royal jelly taco, Sneaky Pete's key lime pie, spectral pickle, spicy enchanted bean burrito, spicy noodles, stale baguette, strawberry pie, tofu stir-fry, and white chocolate and tomato pizza
• By looking at the remaining 38 products some almost certainly will never show up. I would say that no food with four or more ingredients has ever showed up (nor will). The following 13 foods have four or more ingredients: bat wing stir-fry, Boris's key lime pie, insanely spicy bean burrito, insanely spicy enchanted bean burrito, insanely spicy jumping bean burrito, Jarlsberg's key lime pie, Knob sausage stir-fry, Lucky Surprise Egg, pr0n stir-fry, rat appendix stir-fry, Sneaky Pete's key lime pie, spectral pickle, and tofu stir-fry
• Of the remaining 25 products I would say the following 9 will almost certainly show up (or have showed up and stayed undocumented) based on the fact that extremely similar items already have: bat wing kabob, catgut taco, lemon meringue pie, pr0n taco, royal jelly taco, spicy enchanted bean burrito, spicy noodles, and strawberry pie
• Of the remaining 16 products I would say the following 7 might show up (or have showed up and stayed undocumented): ballroom blintz, dehydrated caviar, delicious spicy noodles, desiccated apricot, dwarf bread, Manetwich, and stale baguette
• I would say the remaining 9 probably will not show up: bowl of lucky charms, carob chunk noodles, chorizo brownies, Ent cider, glass of goat's milk, hippy herbal tea, Jumbo Dr. Lucifer, maple syrup, and white chocolate and tomato pizza

• Noteworthy notes/analysis:

• Reagent dishes only have three ingredients. Tier-1 stir-fries and spicy burritos also have three ingredients.
• All "foods" available at The Hermitage have already appeared (catsup, hot buttered roll, ketchup, and even the late fortune cookie). However, reagent dishes and only reagent dishes consume six fullness.
• The only beverages to be offered were catsup and ketchup although they were classified as food at the time. Because they have since been changed, they may no longer show up. Likewise, this is why I stated I didn't think any of the beverages will show up.
• I don't think the bowl of lucky charms will show up due to the familiar.
• I don't think the carob chunk noodles, chorizo brownies, or white chocolate and tomato pizza will show up since they are all exclusive to Chef-in-the-box explosions and none have appeared to show up yet. Nothing special about the Chef-in-the-box but none of the Bartender-in-the-box exclusive items have been offered at The Gnomish Micromicrobrewery either.
• It would seem that all KoL holiday content is restricted, but the ancient unspeakable fruitcake did show up on December 2, 2006. This doesn't mean they didn't restrict it after it happened. Does anybody know if was there for the whole day or if it was replaced?
• If my guess of a restriction for four or more ingredients is true it would make sense why we haven't seen the spectral pickle at all but have seen the especially salty dog multiple times.
• My concluding guess at all restrictions: no quest, restaurant, untradable, unique, gift shop, 4+ ingredients, and 6+ fullness
• There are fewer drinks than food. I should have done this pointless analysis at The Gnomish Micromicrobrewery.

Fullness

Bonus adventures?

I would assume that Opossum sign, milk of magnesium, and munchies pills affect foods consumed through here, but has anyone done any testing on it? If so, can we drop a note into the article about it? --J12601 20:54, 28 October 2006 (CDT)
