KOLHS is the Fall 2013 special challenge path, introduced on August 15, 2013. This path adds variant rules and restrictions to an ascension run. Its description in The Bureau of Reincarnation reads "Oh no, it wasn't a dream -- you really are back in high school!"
You're Too School for Cool in this run.
Restrictions
- You must spend your first 35-40(?) Adventures each day in school; attempting to go elsewhere during this time gets you chastised (see KOLHS/Messages).
- You may adventure in the Lemon Party Slot apparently. Perhaps only adventure.php zones are checked?
- When your mandatory turns are finished, you can leave the school without any notification of completion at all. However, if you do stay in school you will get the Saved by the Bell choice adventure. This will occur three times. (Bug?)
- If you attempt to return to school after the third Saved by the Bell, you get this message:
- You've had enough book-learnin' for today. Unless you want to hang out and watch the janitors clean gum from under the desks, you should just come back tomorrow.
- You may not wear a hat in school; attempting to do so will also get you chastised (see KOLHS/Messages).
- You cannot drink any standard booze. Only path-specific booze can be drunk. Attempting to drink non-path booze gives:
- Your high school palate is not refined enough to enjoy this booze.
Divergences
- You begin the run in the Too School for Cool expository adventure.
- The over-the-shoulder Folder Holder is not only usable in Hardcore on this path, but is automatically pulled. Also its capacity is increased to 5 folders instead of 3.
- The KoL High School is on the Right Side of the Tracks. This is a container with 4 new zones:
- On your 21st adventure in the School, you will encounter the Delirium in the Cafeterium non-adventure. Normally, the choices here simply make you lose HP, but if you have the class specific buffs (such as Nerd is the Word and choosing to sit with the nerds), you'll gain stats instead.
- While adventuring inside the School, using class-specific skills in combat will trigger new messages about the appropriate faction's approval of your actions. Getting enough of these messages grants a buff (such as Nerd Is The Word) which unlocks stat gains (instead of HP loss) in Delirium in the Cafeterium.
- While adventuring outside of the School, you will sometimes acquire booze after a combat. A new message will appear, and you will automatically spend 100 meat and receive booze.
- Your reward for the level 3 quest is 3 bottles of root beer (which are actually food, not booze) instead of 3 flagons of Typical Tavern swill.
Notes
- The school monsters (located in The Hallowed Halls, Art Class, Chemistry Class, and Shop Class) scale. The mechanics by which their scaling works have not yet been spaded.
