• All of the monsters in this area were characters in Edgar Allan Poe's poems or stories.
• The Ourang-Outang that gives a library card is a character from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels, which features an orangutan (or rather, a wizard who was turned into an orangutan) as The Librarian of Unseen University.
• The Ourang-Outang was also a large part of Poe's work "The Murders in the Rue Morgue."
