Talk:Pool skimmer

From A KoL Wiki

Someone with more time and energy than myself might feel inclined to make a list of the "basic" items you can get from dev accounts.--Qbr12 (talk) 01:46, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure if this will be easier or harder to do as time goes on. Like, they might even have a limited number of items out there, just to get the pool of washed items started. I'm not sure which way it works yet. --Chamou (talk) 14:56, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

The page says "occasionally". Is this correct? I seem to get one item every fight. --Greycat (talk) 15:37, 18 August 2014 (UTC)

OK, not 100% of the time. Very rarely, it does nothing. Maybe it's an implementation glitch, or it has to be "primed" by having something washed away, or the pool of washed-away items is empty and hasn't had dev/flood items added yet, or some other mysterious subtle behavior. --Greycat (talk) 13:56, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

It seems to me that each of the dev/flood accounts has its own unique set of items that are added to the pool. This seems like something that would be worth tracking. --Greycat (talk) 13:56, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

Hmm, maybe it's the same list for each account after all. --Greycat (talk) 12:16, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

Gemelli may also be in the list of NPC accounts giving items, but I can't tell because he's also in Heavy Rains as a player. So I left him off this list, for now. --Greycat (talk) 15:30, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

Something Changed

I reported this as a bug, and got some replies from Gemelli:

Greycat: "In Heavy Rains, the pool skimmer is only giving items from other players, not from NPCs any more."
Gemelli: "The pool skimmer only gives NPC items when the pool does not have enough unique items in it. I suspect that the skimmer's firing frequency is currently such that the pool of items is now well-stocked more often than not."
Greycat: "Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. The pool skimmer is very frequently giving NOTHING at all. No message, no item. This happened every once in a great while when the path was current, but now it's happening all the time.

As it turns out, you CAN still occasionally (very occasionally) get an NPC item, but you are far more likely to get nothing."
Gemelli: "Something was changed once the path was no longer current, yes."
