Swords are very common melee weapons of which come in varying degrees of handedness.

Sword-Specific Hit Messages:

You clobber <it> in the forehead with the hilt of your sword, dealing X damage. POW! BOOF! BIFF!
You hamstring <it> for X damage. Mmm, ham. And... mmm, string. KERBLAM! ZAP! KAPOW!
You poke <it> in the shoulder, dealing X damage. WHAMMO! WHAMMO! POW!
You slap <it> on the forehead with the flat of your blade, dealing X damage (and producing a satisfying thwap sound). WHAMMO! BARF! WHAMMO!
You slice <it> across the thigh for X damage. BOINK! SPLAT! KAPOW!
You slice, dice, and then re-slice <it> for X damage. WHAM! ZOT! SPLAT!
You whirl around and cut <it> right across <its> midsection, doing X damage. KERBLAM! KERBLAM! KERBLAM!
