Combat Initiative determines whether you or the monster will get the jump in combat, as well as your chance to Run Away.

How Initiative Works

The mechanics of Combat Initiative are not fully understood, but the following are basics established by Hardcore Oxygenation and the KolSpading fora:

  • Your initiative is influenced by your unbuffed mainstat and initiative modifiers. Stat buffs have no effect on initiative.
  • Each monster in the kingdom has an initiative value. The monster's initiative is based on its adjusted Monster Attack and its initiative value.
  • Running away is affected solely by the monster's initiative value and your initiative modifiers, but not your mainstat.
  • Your percent chance of gaining initiative is
 Initiative (in %) = (100 - Monster Base Init) 
   + Init Modifiers 
   + max(0, Mainstat - Adjusted Monster Attack (including MCDs))
   - Extra Monster Level Penalty

Extra Monster Level has an additional negative effect on initiative. The Extra Monster Level Penalty is based on total extra monster level (minus Slime Tube squeezes) and is calculated as follows:

ML Penalty
0-20 No penalty
21-40 0 + 1×(ML - 20)
41-60 20 + 2×(ML - 40)
61-80 60 + 3×(ML - 60)
81-100 120 + 4×(ML - 80)
101+ 200 + 5×(ML - 100)
